S3 Brakes squeeking

Hiya

Had my car for a few weeks now and i've noticed that my brakes will squeek really sporadically whilst I apply them from 40mph+.

The thing is, they don't do it all the time. Like, i'll apply the brakes, they'll squeek for a couple of seconds if i'm decelerating slowly, then stop. Then other times they won't squeek at all.

My car has done 14000 miles, the pads look ok and nothing is showing on the DIS with regard to the brakes so before I get it into Audi to take a look does anybody have any idea what may be causing this?

there is a thread on here somewhere with this problem in it. Basically , and l have the same problem with driver front, it could be a few things. ive read its the material of the pads or its due to vibration between the pad. solution lm going to try is to put some grease at the back of the pad to help with vibration. jamiekip did a write up on this l think.

Mine are exactly the same and I think it is just a build up of brake dust. I don't think that anything is actually wrong with the system, but it does seem that the S3 is predisposed to this. I know that Staz was experiencing this recently and IIRC he was going to strip his down for a clean.

I have just learned to live with it. So long as they work i'm not too fussed, but it is embarrasing in town and annoying on a top end product.

Yep - I had this issue to. Was initially told by my dealer that there was nothing wrong but I discreetly told them that every other car i've had, has never had the problem and the only other cars I hear doing it are knackered old escorts etc.
They had a clean around the calipers and applied copper grease - this was done at the last service and cured it, however after a spirited drive this morning it has just started doing it again.... 1600 miles showing in the DIS till my next service so can't really complain about that

It's not that bad I guess - at least it seems to be not just my car (not that any of us want this). Looks like it's going to have to be a 'put up with it until it needs to go in' job. Fair enough.

I'm glad i've got BOSE, in the meantime.

its becuae breaks ued to have asbestos in them but after it was banned thats been replace with fine metal dust in the compound this is what causes the squeeking its a bag of **** get some other pads maybe ????

lve also read about this. something to do with the metal content of the pad material.

as l want to do this myself (cheap skate) how does one remove the pads. google l suppose

im not sure on that one but im sure if you change the pads maybe green stuff red stuff im not to clue'd up on that ....but this is the problem of aspestos being taken out causing the breaks to squeek .....

My S3 brakes sqeeked and i found out the new pads were rubbing on the edge of the disc which had worn away...

Discs skimmed and they never sqeeked again

Mine does this on occasion but nothing too extreme especially when compared to my 335 coupe with the Brembo 6 pots on, they squeak like a Pig, a spirted drive usually cures it but drives the wife as the main user nuts.

I have been given the answer to the squeeky brake issue. (mine does it too)

However, even though this sounds like the truth, it did come from the same main stealers that told me my heated seats are fine even though they are still crap!

On an S3, esp the new ones, the "heat expansion gap" around the pad is fractinaly larger than on normal cars. This is due to the monster discs on the front. And the heat that they are desined to cope with.

Basically, the squeeking should stop after the brakes are warmed up. 10 minutes driving or so. This is because the pad plate, will have expanded enough to stop the vibration in it's seating. And voilla.

I pointed out that when I reverse my car slowly and apply brakes, whenever hot or cold it sounds like a buss, large clunk followed by a groaning, the tech guy said, and i quote, "oh now you're justbeing awkward"

spoke to my next door neighbor who is a mechanic. he reckons that if you file of the edge of the pad, chamfer, that should cure it, as well as a bit of copperslip on the back of the pads.

Mine squeek occasionally. It was more evident when the car was new, but it doesn't do it so much now (covered 4,000 miles now) It's almost always when they're cold (as stated above) and yep, after a few minutes of driving the squeeking goes away...

I had this 2 weeks after i bought my car too, rang dealer and they said there is no fault with it (Parkland Adui glouster)

The chiswick Audi said that I shouldn't have to put up with it as i have just bought it, but now 3 months on I just have to live with it I suppose....

was going to complain to Audi UK but so many people are having the same problem, will just wait for the service then tell em
