We had a great meeting at Santa Pod on Sunday with great weather. My best time was 14.3 s for a 1/4 mile.

Decided to go up against a fellow TSN member in his M3 CSL and the results were unexpected. Best time for the CSL was 13.5 and what a great noise it made, the terminal speed was about 9MPH faster at the 1/4 mile than the S3.

Dont get me wrong the CSL is a different league to the S3 but nice to do this legally and see what the S3 can do.

Now a 310 Bhp chipped S3 could be a different ball game with the great traction off the line.

You got off the line quick Paul. Was Tony asleep?? ;)

1/4 mile times meant nowt to me.
What speed were you doing after 14.3 seconds ?
That probably means more to more people than a distance.

Well, my best time on a quarter mile was 13.8 sec (with not a great start). I'm sure your S3 can do better than 14.3.

Btw, from what RMP did you launch the car ? Did you slip the clutch or just released it?

Lack of grip for the CSl's but once they get going blimey. Was pretty even up to about 65 then the extra power makes all the difference. My top speed at the line was 99.7 mph with the CSL's reaching 108 mph.

Excellent time, is this a standard 265 BHP S3 (8P) ?

Was not brave enough to dump the clutch at 4500 RPM, released clutch at about 3500 but did not flip it and put the power down. What did you do to start ?

With a CSL getting 13.5 I am not sure I would expect much better than your time for any S3 but hey who knows.

LOL...thats exactly what I was thinking!

I take it he wasn't using launch control?

Launch control was worse when attempted seemed to produce lots of smoke.

I am not suggesting this means anything but great to see the cars in action legally. At 14.3 seconds 99.7 MPH.

I am sure you could get a better start if you were brave with the clutch.

No, it's a 8P S3 just like yours (265 bhp).
8P S3 vs 350Z (306 bhp) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVnnxuc3U2Y
8P S3 vs STI 2.0 (265 bhp) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcgH1XvIv7g

*edit: Regarding my start, i just released the clutch from 4-5.000 rpm, but the revs dropped to around 1.800-3.000 rpm after i released the clutch.

I thought you had set these times at Santa Pod this Sunday, didnt realise it was somewhere else. Different timing system may explain some of the difference too.

Nice video!

I got 14.44secs in my 2TFSI running around 240bhp last time i was at the pod.

The ambient temperatures were 24 degrees (it was roasting) so that didn't help times!

The M3 CSL guy wasn't Simon Taylor was it? If so I know Simon, and he's a nutter behind the wheel anyway! :)

There were some terrible times from E46 M3s on Sunday. 14+ some of them! Quite dissapointing, the B7 RS4s were just as bad!

More than one of each, especialy the M3s so not sure if it was down to timid drivers or what. The terminal speeds tell you more about the cars grunt though, even the bad times had good speeds.
