Not wanting to be pesamistic and talk about S3's loosing their value but I am keen to get my hands on a new model S3 ASAP but only have a budget of between 20 -22k.

What are peoples views on here about how much they will be worth after a year or so? The cheapest I have seen so far was one going for £24.995 but I think that was a LHD one. I fear it may be a while yet! Do you think they will retain their value well?

    cheers

Personally I think they will retain the value well, prices will probably remain inflated due to limited numbers. You only have to look at the prices of a 3yr old 8L S3, still quite high.
Difficult to say at this point what the value will be after 12 months, you may pick up an orange one up on the cheap ( not heard of anyone who has ordered one) but as for the others who knows. IMO i dont think you will get a year old one for that kind of money, but i may be wrong.

£22K would seem to be in reach - especially if orange

I think if you work on a conservative figure of a prestige car like the S3 being worth 50% of its value after 3 years, and working off the base price of £27000, it might loose £4500 per year on average, working out to 13500 after 3 years.

Looking back at the 8L S3. 5 year old models (like mine) are still selling for 12500-13000 now, after 5 YEARS! Thats excellent IMO.

Working of my rough average figure of depreciation, and saying a typical new S3 is spec'd up to about 31000, after one year you might be looking at 26500.

But like Mark says, they are now sought after, usually highly spec'd and in limited numbers. You might be looking at 28500 after a year.

Dunno, its all guess work. Chins (Jonathan) usually knows about this stuff, he's had loads of motors.

My car cost £28k (29k before discount).

I would hope that after a year mine would be worth about £23.5k. Depreciation is usually highest in its first year, so a 50% 3 year drop, might look like 22%, 18%, 10% (big guess)

Orange and yellow will be hit hard, but my guess is that only dealers would order these as demos, and now after getting their first ones, they wont do the same again.

£22k will probably get you a normal colour, but high mileage car or someone desperate to get out of their car quickly.

I do think that as long as Audi dont increase the allocation, it will be a good new car value wise and due the easy tuning ability will be sought after over and above the R32

I paid around £13k for my (just under) 3 year old 2.0TDI.

I don't think the S3 is going to be dropping its value to the same level after the same time!

I would say from a dealer you would be lucky to get one for around 26k with a few options.

Private sale MAY be better but there is more chance of seeing pigs fly to get a S3 a year old for 22k!

Don't see why you wouldn't get a year old one for £22k. That's only £5k under list and I don't think many people would consider that enough of a saving on a year old car, even an S3.

Yes but i bet noone has ordered one just at list price, even the slightest of options adds nearly a grand. Every one I have seen at the dealers has been 28k plus, the majority being over 30k.

I agree, I dont think i have seen any without extra's.

Guess I will just need to hold of that bit longer then, I know what i'm like though, the first one I see within my price range I will probably end up buying even though it may be orange with wheel trims.

maybe you also have to think of the current competition towards the S3

when the first S3 came out was there as much competition?

what i mean is with the likes of the ST3 Focus, VXR Astra, the new Type R, 197 Clio, mazda 3 MPS, golf gti and anniversary and the new leon

i know the S3 is in a different league price and style wise but these cars are all within the same performance figures for much less money so would you think the current S3 would depreciate more than the previous??

    just a thought

The only car above thats near the performance figure of the S3 is the VXR with 240bhp, all the others are quite far away!

The MKIV R32 did seem to depreciate quite a bit. S3 is an audi, it should it's value VERY well.
