    Hi Guys,

I have ordered the new DSG S3 gear knob for my Audi S Line DSG to complete my S3 convesion ! I know how to do it as it consists of heat and twist approach but this could be very costly and honestly i dont trust myself to do it.

So i wanted to know if anyone knew a proffesional who could do the job for me properly i have the new gear knob it would just be a case of installing would be greatlful if someone could point me in the right direction

    Cheers

So lets just clarify, you have a complete S3 cluster you need fitting or just the rev counter fascia part?

I assume you purchased the rev counter from Lockwood. That's an easy fix. Follow the DIY on ASN. Remember to not turn the key with the cluster detached.

Word to the wise, twisting the pin is not the best way to do it IMHO.

Cut the pin with a model saw
Use a smooth nail file (finish) type and file a few times to each cut part
Use a pin point and place a divet in the exact center of each cut end
Drill with a 1 mm pin vise 3mm on the shift side and 2 mm on the tip side
place a grub screw into the tip side and then attach the tip to the shifter side
    Done

it takes 20 min and no eff up possible unless you have Parkinsons. No need for glue. Mine and others here have had ours hold up for over one year without any problems

Any other specific questions may be addressed to tp.s3wannabe at vwvortex. he does all cars here in san francisco

I dont agree with that method tbh, you're basically cutting it in half which creates a weak point in the link as such, where as my original process retains the base structure & strength of the rod, each to there own of course, but for me the heat & twist with maybe some resin to make it a straight piece again is how I'd do it.

Can swap the fascia over, assume you have a tfsi with matching rev counter numbering.

I agree with you NHN you sound like you know what you are talking about ! Yeah the rev counter numbering is exactly the same ! Would you want to complete both of these cganges for me then ?
    - A3 S-Line DSG Gear Knob To S3
    - A3 Rev Counter Fascia To S3 Fascia

I have all the parts would just be a case of you completing the labour work ?
    Wanna do it for me

^^^ that is for sure! That thread is infamous!! I can't remember but didn't someone snap off the tip after doing the mod with twist and heat only to use a screw to fix it?

LMFAO, I was pulling the climate out & fell backwards & snapped it of with my elbow, as the clips were stuck, but I repaired it with some resin, a pin etc as it was neccessary, buttttt did the heat twist to others & still recommend this if you have a non snapped rod :p

Scott was a pleasure meeting you today mate, always love this mod, transforms the use of said function completely & so much better to use as such than the side button version.

Yeah realised today even more the slice & dice is definitely not the way to do it, cause if you misalign the rod by even a mm you may have difficulty in moving it round slightly, where as the heat & twist method allows adjustments without any such issues, also importantly allows you to test with the new stick before making permanent.

I also now use a very good & iirc costly resin, instead of the epoxy, to strengthen the heated twist, I leave for a fair while to harden then dremel it the diameter to allow up/down movement freely, that way its as strong as can be :)

I cant stress enough you really should do all your measurements before & after, like the height of rod in park position, the height of the bottom of the hole, also if the twist isnt exactly 90 degrees the gearknob can stick & thus wont allow key removal.

Where are you based? I'd recommend NHN do it. Mine wasn't done by him & snapped the first time, new gear selector was £400, expensive mistake
