Hi all as to common knowledge on the A4 b6 rusty front wings I was just pondering if anyone had used non original audi wings to replace theirs with As I phoned TPS for a price on a wing and it came in at nearly £200 OUCH. Any info would be greatly appreciated on how the fit and quality of non original wing are as my car will be making a trip in to the bodyshop soon and i dont wanna pay that kind of money then painting and fitting on top of the price of the wing cheers.

I got it from euro car parts around £50 they called it OEM, it is a great fit.

I know i was shocked to find mine had gone so bad and at first i thought it had gone due to a bad repair but it wasn't till i stripped it that i discovered the real reason why it had gone, it was due to a build up of mud in the back of the under arch lip at the back and in the base where it meets the side sill and this mud had been holding water and rotting it out from the inside out.

    Here's where mine went:

Wouldn't getting it repaired be more economical then getting a new wing as you're going to have to get it painted regardless.

Yeah thats exact places where mine went and I had a4 1.8t before my diesel and both went on that had it painted and six months later came back through spoke to numerous body shops and the aaid would always eventually return so this is why am going down new wing route.

Rust is a nightmare especially when its rotted from the inside out the only way to do a permanent repair would be to cut out the effected area and welding in fresh metal, as a result the work involved makes it cheaper to replace.

If it was light surface rust due to say a stone chip then you could grind it back and probably go back deep enough to rid all the rust but like i mentioned in the case of our front wings the problem starts out of sight on the inside of the wing and goes right through to the outside.

i been thinking bout this common problem for ages and came up with an easy fix so after your new wing is in place to stop this happening again silcone the plastic arch liner to the body of the car so then no muck can get in and rub on the plastic onto the metal

Mine have gone in the exact same place. You might also get a shock if you took a door blade off and looked under there...

    A8's are, A4's are galvanized.

they go rusty cos **** sits on the egde of the plastic liner and then rubs on the metal so it rubs so in time it works it way at the paint and galvo then will go rusty

Are there any guides about for how to replace the wing? I need to do both of mine soonish as they've both got bits of rust in the same places as you guys have found.

My non-oem wing and bonnet are already rusting in a few places, and they're only about 18 months old :( (replaced due to a crash, not because they were rusty)

I'm very tempted by oem when I replace them as my other wing is still original and absolutely fine.

My rear off side arch has started to go too, which really sucks as they're not exactly easy to replace like the fronts.

Mine has done exactly the same both sides, quite symmetrical, from the highest point forward to the very front. I've had the car from new and tried to claim under Audi's anti perforation warranty. They were very hard nosed and said the warranty only covered corrosion coming from the back and not from the face. I argued that as it was symmetrical, and there were no stone chips, this was from the back and was not external surface rust penetration. I said I knew it was abrasion between plastic liner and wing grinding off the galv, but they simply replied to say if I was not satisfied, I should employ a paint specialist to prepare an expert report. They even provided a suggested specialist! But as this was going to be almost as expensive as repair, with no guarantee of success, I didn't progress. They are good cars, but not as wonderful as the image they project.

Had my wing done im fairly happy with the fit mine was purchased from euro car parts and my painter fitted a pair to his a4 last year and said he knew theyd rot aggain eventually so painted the inside of my wing too to try and prolong the life of it. I also know what you mean about under the door trims quattrojames as ive recently also fitted door blades my fronts were unmarked like new underneath after cleanig all the build up of dirt off though lol but one of my rear doors has a bubble underneath and now I know its their itl bug me ha ha. Also I cnt see the prepainted wings on ebay been a very good color match as the shade on mine was slightly out as it was painted off the car im going to have to get it blended in a few weeks.

The OE quality wings from euro car parts are £132, they do a cheaper version for £90. The OE wings from Audi are £186. I would go with the Audi wings as they will be better quality and last considerably longer.

Nothing wrong with my OE euro car parts wing I fitted it was perfect fit and the underside was waxoyl'ed before fitting so that will certainly last with its built in rust inhibitors, mine was £50 + vat but im in the trade
