Running with no anti roll bar?

    As the post says really, anyone running with no anti roll bar? Sick of the issues with mine catching and chewing through shortened drop links.

    Wave good bye to any kind of decent handling when going round corners.....Or infact any kind of change in direction.

    Yeah, would handle like a car made of jelly. Not recommended.

    What is recommended is changing your ARB for a non adjustable Whiteline front ARB. Goes UNDER the shafts, intead of over them. Solves issue, and handles better.

    I guessed the shortened drop links = lowered...

    So, in summary... lower the car to improve handling then remove the ARB... LOL

    But seriously... As Welly says, ARB is supposed to be there, lowered suspension not so much... removing the ARB will make the car very dangerous to drive...

    Reminds me of the old Mk1/2 Escort days... slap a 2ltr pinto into a 1.1 popular plus without changing the factory front and rear drums brakes and 155/70/13 wheels LOL...

    Remove ARB = plain stupid...

    Soz to bang on about it but its a public forum and there are enough death traps on the road as it is...

    Rant over... LOL

    Well said Paul, and all valid points.

    Best to get it sorted properly and in one go, and imrove your handling more by shelling out for a proper ARB...

    on mk4 golfs ive known people put in the front arb from a v6 4mo

    its a straight bar that doesnt hoop over the shafts

    R32 ARB's are the popular choice but don't just replace one, really need to replace both front and rear at the same time unless you replace with the same size of course otherwise it will alter the handling drastically... not as drastically as removing it of course :)

    as far as i know, the arb is not removable from an a3 or mk4 rear beam. i have fitted eibach sets in the past

    Car was lowered pretty much for cosmetic reasons tbh, vain i know but it's my car. Have heard of people runnin v low on air removing arb's and was curious. Have tried diff drop links and still seem to run into troulbe with shaft catching. Don't lecture me about death traps, I see em all day very day mate. I appreciate the point ur making tho, rest assured my car is in immaculate mechanical health (apart from the obvious!!!). Wish i hadn't bothered lowering it now, flippin audis!!!!

    Lowering is fine, mine is lowered too but there is a limit to A3/S3 lowering sadly. 25/30mm is about the max you can go without hitting problems, one of which you have experienced of course the other being the sump which is low enough on a 1.8t (assuming thats what you have of course)

    Coilovers of course (guessing this is what you have) tend to make these issues worse as lowering up to 60mm will cause the issue you currently have and unfortunately the only choices you have are to raise the car a tad or replace the drop links with the longer adjustable ones.

    I have 30mm Apex springs on Bilstein B8's... 30mm is a little crashy on really bad roads though tbh but other than that they are fine. I did have Eibach Pro springs before but they were 25mm front/20mm rear and I didn't like the way the car sat (with you on the cosmetic side)....

    I had coilovers on my A4 and put them on the lowest setting when I first got them on... bloody ridiculous!!! couldn't drive it anywhere realistically....

    If we are talking about an A3 then I disagree. I say removing the front ARB improves diagonal weight transfer on cornering to level out the front. The effect is a more neutral handling car. VW/Audi engineer in the understeer for safety. The 1.8T feels nicer without the front ARB in my opinion.
    If we are talking S3, then I cannot comment as I've not had the experience on that score.

    surely the best of all is a front AND rear ARB kev?

    I agree the standard car would have a much better balance with the front ARB removed, although I think it'd suffer from a fair amount of body roll!

    I think the best solution is surely an uprated front bar, with an appropriately sized rear bar to get the balance right

    It's all a bit personal I guess. I liked how the front gripped with the front bar removed. My car was then with just the standard rear ARB and coilovers. Standard late style front ARB and uprated rear would be nice as you say.

    didn't some touring cars cut the ARB in the centre to get round a rule that they had to run them? IIRC

    no front arb will promote more oversteer

    and to be fair to audi, it was fine till you messed with it ;)

    have you ever looked at touring car suspension and builds? you think all that was done was to cut out the arb?
