And the fact that because it's on air once it's aired out it will probably hit the arches. What's the offset you plan on?

    Good point.

The only way to get the sort of plan here working is to go down the route of lots of stretch on tyres that are basically a bit skinny for the rims.
Some people like that look, and lots dont, leaving aside the handling issues.

I've got 245x40x18s on my car,and fitting tyres that size under the arches was a royal PITA,which AMD can back up.

    What's yours lowered by?

I have 235/40/18 on a sportback et43 but I need to lower it as the car looks like a big foot, I made the mistake thinking sport and S line was the same before changing the rims .

Mine isn't lowered much at all.....about 30mm if I remember,as we went for handling as opposed to bottom scraping...LOL

A couple of how it looks...

This shows how tight it all is,getting it under the front arches....

Im running 18" 9J all round ET43 tucks when slammed on air but need 215/35/18 tyres so stretch is needed, also i had bentleys before and needed 215/35/19 stretched to stop rubbing

Do you think 18x8 et43 with 235/40/18 will be ok with 40 mm drop ?

I honestly don't know the offset on the wheels but could probably find out,as I leave all the technical stuff to AMD!

The front wheel is the problem area,as fitting 245s under there is very tight, and the way we solved this was to go to adjustable topmounts to alow camber adjustment, and then give the fronts about 2.5degrees of camber, with the rears running 3 degrees.

They will rub a tiny bit if you hit a bump hard at speed,or load up the suspension cornering hard, but the Michelin Supersports I use in winter don't rub at all.

Bloody hell u don't want to have to go through all that if I lower it, really don't want to spend money on this car, it's used for work and parked in a demolition aggregate yard, it gets filthy with 10 mins of being in there..

I come across a cheap set of 18s with damn good tyres and worked out better than buying 2 new front tyres..but the height looks silly, I thought the s line and sport were the same but clearly not ..

Why have you gone for 245s , for better handling?

As you've seen, mine is a bit of a daft car now!

You can do a lot of this without going to the lengths I went to,especially if you aren't having to get as much rubber under the car as possible, and the only reason we went for 245s was to get maximum grip and traction, and stayed with 18s also for handling reasons.

The problem before was trying to feed 500bhp and 450lbs of torque into it,without either the TC cutting in,or being unmanageable without.

    A daft car haha

Na it's a sweet motor , I've not gone through your build thread yet as would prob need to take a week off to get through it..

My pal is running similar power in his mk6 golf R, he was looking to get another 100bhp but the cost to get that extra 100bhp on top of the 500 bhp is stupid.

    Now that's the truth!

    To all of the above....

Anyhow,my mate from Romania has extracted somewhere north of 700bhp from his Golf R,but I definitely have neither the time nor the money to do anything other than worship what he's done.

    330bhp....pretty cheap price.

    360bhp....not so cheap,but reasonable.

    440bhp....getting expensive.

    500bhp....seriously expensive.

    600bhp....still thinking on that.

i'm on 225/40/18 on 8J with ET43 and front is perfect, rear rubs when i go over a big dip in the road, or with 2/3x rear passengers but never had any issues if it's just me with or without luggage in boot. mines lowered on eibach prokit but it's sline/black edition suspension so will have only gone down by another 10 or so.

when i had eibach prokit it rubbed less probably because the stiffer spring prevented this. incidentally my rear arch screw has been ground away with an angle grinder, its just the head left.

if you aint rubbin, then you aint dubbin lol

The real issue with rubbin' seems to be what size tyres you're running,as it's clearly OK to use 18" or 19" rims, without issues as long as the offset is correct, but once you get beyond 225's,you're going to run the risk of it happening, and to run 245s,you need either some arch work,or a lot of camber,or both.

    Yeah for sure

I'm pretty sure he will get an RS6 or porsche turbo next instead of putting more money in to his golf ...

He also has a mk1 golf and also pretty sure that will be running similar power and converted to 4wd but can't see him ever selling that.
