Hi peeps, new here, been looking around the forums for a couple weeks now, as have taken ownership of a s4 cab 2005 B6 model.

Everything is fine with it (well almost everything), but what really annoys me is the RSN-E screen colour. I know it isn't right, but before taking it all apart and changing the ribbon, just wanted to check if it's what I should be doing.

The colour is "negative", as in, it is swapped colours. All works fine, including the navigation (if i can see the screen to input it).

Also, pressing around the screen will either distort the colours more, or turn the screen either off completely, or fully white (I guess that would be black if the colours were not swapped around).

See images below, I can take some more, as this was a "poor day" (It has good and bad days i think, having a good day today, will take a pic).

Any pointers, please let me know.

Thanks, Matt

From what I have googled, the ribbon cable issue makes the screen go blank completly.

I would be opening it up and checking it anyway.

All you can do is to check the ribbon connection, then go from there, maybe screen, ribbon or even mobo, its one of those faults that only swapping parts over will help.

Thanks for both the replies here.

Just an update, I have changed the ribbon, and the screen is still in "inverted colours" and still goes every now and again. I can get the screen to reappear by pressing on the screen bezel/surround and will flicker back on, never in the correct colours though.

Anyone know why my screen is in inverted colours, and if it is an easy fix? Should I just look at getting a new screen, unit or after market (although I wanted to keep OEM)?

EDIT: Just searching through the forum and seen this posted a while back -

Apart from the screen not showing does it work and talk etc? It could be the LCD backlight. Sometimes if you shine a light at it you can see if it changing the LCD on the panel if the backlight is faulty. If so it's probably the LCD backlight inverter.

Could it be the backlight / backlight inverter? if so, what is this, where is this, and how to fix this? :)

I'd say this is an LCD fault if you have already checked the riddon cable. The LCD will have built in LED lighting which you can't replace without alot of specialist soldering equipment, I don't think fault backlights would cause the colours to go like that. The LCD will have its own small circuit board on it, your proberly find something has failed on that.

Thanks for the reply, VagCabby.

This is what I'm more swaying to now, too.

Anyone have any idea where I can get a replacement screen from? I'd like to save money and fit it myself (with my friend), if possible.

Pretty sure they use the same screen as the Vectra C.
Whether that makes it easier to find I dunno.

Thanks, will keep an eye out. as long as it doesnt say vauxhall anywhere on it :D

anythings better than having a vauxhall badge on it.

I'm still going through my issues with my rnse. I like the oem look but tbh a aftermarket should have been the way I went

I've come from a clapped out Subaru Impreza, where everything was either broken, modded or changed. I want to keep everything stock with my Audi now, I like the Audi nav (with my DIS), and it seems to work well. I don't want to go down the aftermarket route really.

And yes, agreed, I would rather have my shakey only-working-half-the-time and with inverted colours, than one given to me for free saying Vauxhall :)

mine the seller never put it in transport mode when he sent me it, the disc shifted and is causing issue's. I removed that disc but since then it won't accept or eject any discs and doesn't register the disc being in the drive :(

Ah, sorry to here that. These things can be so fiddly etc.

If you are going to purchase an aftermarket/another unit, I want your screen :p

lol

I need to be bothered to take the lid off the unit and see if I can see why its not accepting the discs, hopefully I won't need to purchase another lens for it as I bet thats quite a bit

SITREP; it now has good and bad days, it was working the other day fine, then went off completely, and now is working today, but will probably stop working lol.

Think I might just go to a company to get it (just the LCD screen) changed, as the car is under warranty and is probably my best bet.
