I have a 2.5TDi Quattro 03 reg with standard 16" Trapeze style wheels. It has SE suspension not Sport which I guess would be lower. I am going to replace these with a set of 18" RS6 wheels running 235/40 x 18 tyres.

I am sure this is a common replacement which many forum users have done. So all I want to know is will they fit straight on without any issues? I'm sure somebody has done it but I just want to make sure that they will go straight on without touching the arches or fouling the brakes at all.

    Cheers James :hi:

Good choice of wheel mate, personally I feel they suit the contours of the a4 perfectly.

When you say A8's do you mean the 18" Avus style?

The RS's look good on your car, shame your so far away, when are you thinking of selling and are they genuine wheels? I guess you need to source the A8's first? I have been looking out for them too and they are quite rare but are about.

Ahhhh ok, I got the wrong end of the stick then :undwech:

I was thinking the Avus style, such as fitted in a 16" size to the S2's etc also to some TT's I think :icon_thumright:

Yep Chris them are the ones, I'll probably be pxing mine for a set of these or sell the RS6's private. I saw some on a black 190 in Manchester a few weeks ago and they looked the business - got to have a set

Yes that is the 18" Avus I mentioned before. I would like some of them, but in 18" size they are fairly few and far between and thus more expensive. Would be well up for a pair if they came up in the right condition at the right price!

Theres a set on ebay now with about 3 hours to go. They have no tyres and looked quite tatty, and were up to £150 when I left this morning. Can't get ebay at work though so will have to let them go, and to be honest by the time I had bought them, refurbed them and bought new tyres would be knocking on the door of a grand anyway

    :o.k: wheels though!

Thanks for that thread, hadn't seen that before. I'm doing this 'on the cheap' so to speak, but for what it's worth I think you made the right choice with the Avus wheels as I mentioned earlier in the thread. Where did you get them from?

I have an SE model, if I put 18" RS6's on is it gonna look like it's on stilts? Lowering is on the cards put probably gonna be a while before I can justify another expense! :undwech:And don't want to be looking daft in the meantime

UPDATE: Have just bought a set of 18" RS6's :rockwoot:

Need a refurb but am going to do this myself so will start a new thread with pics when they arrive:salute:

If you look in my older posts you will see pics of my previous A4 ( denim blue saloon) that had 18" rs6's on it and standard suspension. It wasn't too bad, but I ended up lowering it with 30mm Eibachs..

Couldn't find any pics I'm afraid, had a good look but most of the pic links are no longer working. Do you any pics you could link me to?

Have posted a pic below if anyone is able to photo shop some 18" RS6's on for me I would be very gratefull :hi:

Thanks for that, when you say '30mm' springs do you mean they have a 30mm drop below standard? Or is the '30mm' a measurement in relation to those Eibach springs?

Cheers, as I said in the Handling forum this was a trial fit to make sure they fitted and ran true before I spent time and money to refurb them. I will hopefully be in a position to lower it later this year when I have restocked my wallet :beerchug:

Your car looks great now, was after some RS6's myself but decided to get 17" wheels to keep costs down on new rubber. One day maybe!

    Thanks chaps :icon_thumright:

I thought about the 17"s too, but in the end decided that if I was going to spend money on wheels I might as well spend a bit more and get what I really wanted to save regrets later! The cost of tyres isn't that much more I don't think, although I do need 2 new ones after the refurb. Hopefully by refurbing them myself I will get mint wheels for minimal outlay! Trouble is I don't wanna take them off now to refurb them .....

    Tight git..;)
Its not like you'll be changing your tyres every month is it..and the tyre cost aint much at all between your 17s and 18s either so treat yourself!

Lots of tyre talk in this thread:

    http://audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=55480

My previous tyres were 215/55 x 16, giving an overall tyre diameter of 645mm. By using 235/40 x 18's the overall tyre diameter is 643mm so within 0.31%. 225/40 x 18's give an overall diameter of 637mm which is still under 1% different so perfectly acceptable!

    http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

It would depend on what tyres your car came with, I have just specified sizes as close to original as I could.

Car looks nice and will be even better once lowered.

Be aware that your mpg will drop with wider wheels fitted.

lol, well for a start my wife who uses the car 4 days a week for her business thinks that because the car has power steering she can turn full lock without moving the car :banghead: this obviously doesnt do the tyres much good. Add the fact that she loves kissing kerbs with the wheels and you can probably start to understand why Im not prepared to shell out the best part of £500 upwards for her to go and ruin them
Despite how I may have portayed her above she is a very good driver and does look after the car, although it looks like a mobile wheelie bin when I finally get to use it at weekends. Like she once said to me, "I dread driving this car because if I ever damage it you'll either divorce or kill me!" I can answer that one love, ILL KILL YOU!!!! :keule:

Oh I wish we still had 2 cars :3sadwalk:
