rs4 maf on s4

    just out of curiosity what would be the outcome of fitting an rs4 maf meter onto an s4? they are 10mm larger diameter 83mm v's 73mm.. the flexi pipe leading to the y-pipe has a reducer gasket inside so would probably be a direct fit with a thinner one. would it allow more airflow or just reduce the pressure=reduction in air flow?

    dont think it would give you more air flow as the air is coming from the induction pipes, you get more air from a less dense filter but doubt it would give you more flow=power

    Without a suitable remap it would make it run like ****.

    For a given airflow, the meter would read lower on the RS4 MAF because the housing is larger.

    awww..

    i'm fitting an rs4 exhaust system in the next couple of weeks with gutted precats and might lose the middle box too and fit a k+n filter, i was just thinking of other things to fiddle with while i'm there.

    i am getting my remap adjusted after the exhaust ....

    The RS4 MAF's are just as prone to failure as the Bosch ones.

    so they're all hitachi then rs4 maf's??? it wouldnt work anway then. it wasnt a reliability query just the typical male thinking of bigger is better...lol

    you will need to get the car mapped with the new RS4 maf on, as your having it mapped anyway due to your exhaust going on you could do it at the same time.

    I have the RS4 maf on mine, had it as part of the upgrade to make the toy go quicker.:rockwoot: Works brilliantly .:)

    panel filter not cone.. please dont cry
    are the rival filters better??? they're certainly cheaper
    itg, pipercross, what do you reccomend??

    Ye a paper filter is what you want.

    Turbocharged engine really isnt going to see any gains anyway. If the inlet is pressurised to 1bar then you have 1bars worth of air, whether the turbo has had to draw that in thru an open pipe, or thru a normal paper filter doesnt really matter to the engine.

    and cotton fitlers really dont seem to filter as well as paper (that is their function after all) and an oil filter has that chance of damaging the maf (the only car ive had with a maf and a special filter had a blitz stainless steel filter, so i cant comment on whether thats a myth or not)

    oil based filters cost money to maintain, far more money and hassle than it takes to just put a new paper filter in that will flow just as much

    if i get round to getting an s4, ill look into modding the airbox tbh

    Matt: "Green Cotton" filters are oiled too mate. I pointed this out to a few folk on here a couple weeks back, with a link to the cleaning and re-oiling kit on the green website.

    The reason their oiled is because the filter material isnt fine enough, so they're relying on the oil to catch the dust. Might be fine on a series landrover (they had oil bath filters as standard ;)) but not on any modern engine.

    and before you can reoil it, you have to clean it with petrol to get the old gunk out

    and the oil costs £10 etc

    never again, paperfilters for me

    i think i can sacrifice the 0.000065bhp

    MRC one is foan isn't it? seems to be an ITG one
    wouldn't buy another ITG filter if they were 40p TBH.
    foam degrades and becomes part of your air charge!
    worse than no filter!

    ive ran plenty of foam filters before. ive not had one fall apart (yet)
