I think you'll find it's the other way around. The road car comes first, the rally car is then based on it. Was the Evo X the first Evo you'd been in? I'm guessing that it was, because like Paul said, the interior is a VAST improvement on the earlier cars. Seriously, no matter how plasticy you think the X is, it's pure luxury compared to the IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, or IX. Besides, I don't think you can hold Mitsubishi accountable for the build quality in the Recaro factory.
