Roof rails... Going off colour/marks? Help tips please

Hi,

My 03 Avant's aluminium roof rails have started to show funny markings/dull patches on them? Any tips for restoring them to nice & shiny original?

Hello

Mmmmmmmm......... I'm pretty sure they're hard anodised so I'd try a little metal polish like AUTOSOL. Use it lightly and evenly tho - you might end up with chrome rails!

Anodising can mark and stain quite badly though , I know this from bikes I've owned in the past. If the marks are bad enough nothing will remove them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Mine still are still perfect after 11 months - But I do keep a nice coat of Zymol on them (along with the rest of the car)
Keeping a nice coat of wax on them should stop them staining.
