Ive seen a few people on sites doing a blog about car ownership so decided to have a go, so here's my effort.

I've had a fair few cars when in my younger years, A calibra, a magazine featured Astra estate, a Clio 172 that loved eating driveshafts and a supercharged MCS that drank fuel among a few others. I've always had that VAG itch, came close once and nearly brought a colour concept golf GTI but obviously as you get older the priorities change so cars made way for houses, soft furnishings and ****** oak sideboards... Oh and a mk1 Ford Focus zetec, the very pinnacle of motoring enjoyment.

We decided this year to treat ourselfs to something a bit nicer and more family friendly, she wanted a juke... however I won, but only after my request for a Delorean DMC-12 with flux capacitor was denied as it was 'impractical' and changed to a Avant.

I was looking at 2.0 Tdi's with the few I looked at for my budget turning out to be a bit rough/well used, I'd got to that point looking at cars made me want to stick my head down a toilet when I stumbled on this..

A 2006 2.7 V6 Tdi S Line Avant with 2 owners, A large wallet full of receipts, FSH (all done by Audi bar the last service) and only 68k, we went to view on a horrendous cold wet day and I honestly expected it to be a dog.. But after a test drive we put a deposit down and picked it up a few days later..

My plan was to get it fully serviced for peice of mind and get it cleaned up to a more acceptable standard plus a few other bits.

Now I've been into cleaning/detailing for a while and have accumulated a lot of equipment and products during that time, I had a crappy old leaky shed it was thrown in over a year ago when we moved and it's been in there since because I didn't use it.

Because of the way my stupid brain works I will obsess over one thing at a time (Im currently being screened for Aspergers due to how many traits I have) I wouldn't start cleaning the car until it was all sorted out, so I ordered a new bigger man shed.

So I emptied the titanic (as it leaked like it) and then went all demolition man and tore it down with my bare hands.. and a hammer.

Stacked it up ready to be taken away

Then next day put up the new shed with my old man and filled it within a hour. Over the next week I sorted everything out, added extra security and generally farted around until I was happy.

One of my oldest and best friends has always been a technician in various garages and always had him check over any new car I've had, as luck would have it he's just moved to a German car specialist so I decided to let him settle in before taking the car over.

Then I started to get a horrible metallic banging sound from the front, me being me thought the worst and then googled into the early hours what it could be even crawling under the car in my pants at 1am pulling at the FARB... like I said, I obsess.

Next day I asked the lads at work to take a look for me and see what said banging was, which was a loose wheel! Guessing when the wheels had a refurb before we brought it whoevever put them back on did it with a fisher price 'my first torque wrench' and In fact it had knackered the hub by cross threading 3 of the 5 bolts which now looked like bananas.

I rang the garage and they agreed to pay for a new hub, bearings and wheel bolts.

Went home and told the Mrs who got very angry because she uses the car during the week to take the kids to school, I hid in my new man shed.

Next day everything was stripped then parts arrived and the bearings pressed into new hub...Only to find out when everything was being put back together the hub was for a Quattro... I thought about sleeping in the man shed that night.

Correct hub and new bearings arrived then fitted, then came the 3hr labour bill of nearly £500 to be paid by the garage.. did I mention I work at BMW? Whoops must have slipped my tiny mind. They paid.

So with the car fixed and not having to hide in the shed I arranged the service with my friend. Ordered from opie oils 9lts of Castrol edge, air, fuel, cabin, and oil filters which came to £125 with express delivery - not bad I thought.

With the recent wobbly wheel incident I expected other problems to be found as I'm a pessimist and now had decided in my mind the car was a dog but nether the less last sat we put it on the ramp and dumped its treacle like oil..

And replaced with

Oil filter changed then Air box was stripped out and this (plus more) came from the intake, my only conclusion is I had a family of f@@king badgers living under my bonnet.

The fuel filter was changed and then the cabin filter

****** badgers.

All fluids checked and topped up then wheels, suspension etc inspected.

Finishing with a diagnostic check which only resulted in 6 error codes one being a dodgy parking sensor I will need to change.

Thankfully that is all what was needed which is a pleasant surprise after the week before, I instantly noticed a difference on the way home it's pulls like a train and it's not drinking diesel like father jack at a open bar... looking at the service history by the powers of deduction at the state of the filters and oil along with the mileage we can only assume the last 'service' was never done at the independent garage stamped in the book, but it was previously by Audi in 2014.

This doesn't bother me too much as the car is now mechanically sound, serviced, and safe which in turn now lets me start cleaning and tidying it up.

And that brings us up to date, that was my first 2 months of Audi ownership, more to come!

Good stuff, glad to hear it's all sorted now

I'm with you on the Delorean haha always tempted to go for something like that myself.

Have you got much planned for the car?

Nice car mate, looks like you know your stuff and have a good mate to help and nice shed for OCD stuff.
My neighbour now works from home so i get my OCD stuff delivered to him now, saves ear ache.

Well the plans are to get it cleaned up, paint the calipers either black or grey, the number plate holder needs attention, do something about all the stained chrome (don't you just love cheap car washes covering cars in sodium hydroxide heavy chemicals!)
A remap is a must, then maybe some springs and finally I'd love some 19 speed lines.. I've not really thought about it... honest.
