I will try to be brief (don't even know what RNS-E stands for)
I would like to fit satnav to my 55 a4 b7 avant s line i've been offered a RNS low BNS 5.0 unit which is brand new, part no.8E00 35192 GS but i've now been told it can only be fitted as an upgrade to cars factory fitted with RNS E .
If the car had radio/cd fitted its no good ,is this "true" or can it be fitted
what else would be needed to fit and how much works involved.
any help / explanation gratefully recieved.

RNS-e stands for Radio Navigation System

I think it's the other way around. The unit you have been offered sounds like the cd rom version with the smaller screen, where as the RNS-E is the DVD based system that you can add Bluetooth, mmi and tv modules to.

If you have a double din stereo now then it's quite an easy install.
