RNS-E - iPod/iPhone lighting question

hi all

Have RNS-E and an old iPhone 5s which I want to use as an iPod

I purchased a genuine AMI lighting cable from ebay part number - 4F0051510AL

Soon as it's plugged in even before I plug in the phone I get not compatatble ?

Did I get a wrong cable ? Or does my unit need a software update ?
