RIP Bob, news reports say he died od pneumonia at 71 y/o.
A fine actor and a sad loss too.
A very sad loss to this country, 1 of our finest actors, will be gratefully missed!!
My favourite story about Bob Hoskins is about a film he wasn't in. Brian De Palma was making The Untouchables, and wanted Robert De Niro to play Al Capone. De Niro told him he might not be able to do it because of a scheduling conflict with another film, so De Palma called up Bob Hoskins and asked if he'd take the role if De Niro couldn't. Figuring there was no shame to being second choice to Robert De Niro, Hoskins readily agreed.
In the end, there was no conflict, and the film was made with De Niro playing Al Capone. Out of courtesy and respect, Brian De Palma wrote thanking Bob Hoskins and enclosing a cheque for $35,000. Bob Hoskins rang him to say thanks, adding: "Next time you don't want me a film, let me know".
Now that's class!
(Shame, really, cos much as I am a huge fan of De Niro, he stank as Al Capone.)
Oh bother! And I'm 69-years and 8-days just gone...
No relatives either, so get that list started for BLUEY now...
Good life Bob Hoskins, portrayed some interesting characters, well done you...
He was a legend....RIP man.
I've got my Long Good Friday BD out of the cupboard. As soon as the Champions League match is over, on it goes in tribute to The Man.
So sad to hear this. He was a brilliant actor.
