My new (new to me) 2000 Saloon 1.9tdi seems to ride much higher than my 2000 Saloon V6 TDi Q that I just drowned - do the different models come from the factory with different ride heights?

The long answer is yes, check the suspension PR code.

    It will be :-

1BA (Standard height quoted in the books 150mm IIRC),
1BB (+20mm heavy duty. Springs are the same as 1BT, some form of unknown cleverness gave the extra 13mm),
1BC (special purpose vehicle (God only knows - Thunderbird A4?)),
1BD (Sports running gear S4), RS4 (Self Evident),
1BE (Sports running gear, 20mm lowered from standard, as fitted to my saloon, and previously fitted to Mrs PaulFs' Avant),
1BV(Sports running gear, quattro GmbH - try and buy THOSE!)
1BQ (Sports running gear, South Africa - I won't make any jokes for fear of being arrested),
1BT (Heavy Duty running gear - and now fitted to Mrs PaulFs' Avant. +7mm over standard height) and finally
1BP (trim position as 1BA, but limited bump travel).

Almost certainly you will have 1BA or 1BE. Check the boot sticker for the codes.

You may also have knackered/broken springs

Thanks Paul - its 1BE the sports lowered on the V6 Q like yours - I guess the 1.9 has the standard ride height. I find the V6 Q more poised and that wouold explain t.

Most quattros will have 1BE as they're almost all Sport trim.

Presumably your new car is a FWD, meaning its a boggo spec/SE model rather than a sport model, thus the jacked up ride height and probably flat seats inside too...

PaulF: 1.8TQS's came with 1BV suspension ;) Its not much different to 1BE.

Ahh, that explains it! I thought it was their racing stuff.

Having said that, try and buy standard height springs from Audi. As far as I could find out, you may not be able to!!

Yes - disppointingly its the SE spec - I have some time to find the perfect Quattro/V6 Tdi/ Avant combination. And fit it with a snorkel like landrover folk do.

You could have had my standard springs Paul.....

No, I don't think so.I'm sure the damper mounting points are not the same for the rears, at least.

You'll probably find the old springs and shocks are a bit tired by now anyway - you'd be much better renewing them if at all possible.
