I have a problem with the reverse light, on my A3 1.8T (99).

When I lift the clutch the light comes one but when the clutch is in the light is off.

I'm coming up to my MOT next month, and was wondering if I could fix this myself, I assuming that it would fail on MOT if the reverse light did not function.

I think that it could be a dodgy contact somewhere, but I do not know where to look.

cheers

The reverse light doesn't come into an MOT test. Strange that it should happen, usually the switch is in the gearbox and activated by the selector so has nothing to do with the clutch. Does the car have cruise control?

The only thing I can think of would be a faulty gearbox switch.

BTW, reverse lights aren't in the MOT, so I will pass if you fix or not.

Yeah, most definatly sounds like the switch then. Might have a loose internal connection that is getting made when there is activity in the gearbox.
