    Hi all!

I hope you are all well. This is my first post so here goes.

I have seen related posts on the forum, but nothing that directly answers my questions and i felt that rather than hijacking a thread, I thought I'd start a new one. Apologies if this is still isn't the correct way to go about it.

I've been researching for the last month or so, and I'm very close to retrofitting RNS-E and Bluetooth to my A3. At present I have the double din 'Concert' radio. I'd just like to check that the below components / combination are compatible with one another:
    - November 2006 Audi A3
    - Standard, non multifunction steering wheel
    - RNS-E with 2012 maps, part 8P0035193G
    - Bluetooth module, part 8P1862335 (www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320699755870)

I intend control Bluetooth through the RNS-E alone.

My main concern is fitting new components to an almost six year old A3. A bit of confusion I've had is stuff with the CAN bus version. Is it something I should be worrying about?

I'm competent in regards to the fitting of all of this, but will need to ask one of you for a hand with the coding :)

Thanks for your help in advance,
    Sat

It's all easily done. Just make sure you get a RNS-e for an A3 (that part you list is fine) and you'll be fine. You will have quadlock connectors already if you have double din concert.

I fitted mine in May to my car and had no issues though I didn't bother with Bluetooth.

    Ah great stuff!

Yea, I've got the quadlock connection. As I don't have Bose speakers or any other addon, the current connections are the bare minimum.

After looking at the pinouts of the Concert and RNS-E, apart from Bose and AUX there doesn't seem to be much difference. As the aforementioned aren't installed, I think I'll be safe to plug and play as far as the wiring is concerned. Though I might wire-in an AUX input to a blank 32pin connector and have it coded in along with the RNS-E and BT whilst I'm at it.

Just wondering though, has anyone tried or have good knowledge for the complete setup I'm going for? Your input would be most welcome!

I have RNS-E, BT, & AMI, all supplied & fitted by NHN himself.

    Ah nice.

I have just ordered the parts and they should arrive within the next week. I will post the results when all fitted.

Also, I will be requesting upon someone with VCDS capabilities to give me a hand with coding it all up soon - I came across the VCDS owners map earlier: very neat!

    Cheers!

Right, so I've fitted it all but not yet done any coding.

However, the RNS-e recognises the fact that the Bluetooth module is connected in that the "telephone not available" message is now replaced with "you telephone may not be connected or attached properly"

So I thought, ok, let's try and pair the phone.

When scanning for BT devices on my phone, it didn't find anything... Does this mean that it's a coding problem or something else?

Also, I couldn't find a "scan for devices" option on the RNS-e itself. After youtube-ing videos, it seems as though there isn't one implemented, but you initiate the paring through you phone.

    Please help!

You need to get it coded mate, it will do funny things until the coding is done. Don't run before you can walk so to speak!

Looooool yes yes, I was pushing my luck before putting it all in place :D

But yeh, all that's left to do now is find a place to put the BT module... It's a lot bigger than I expected!

Any experiences (apart from under the seat) as to where is a good place? I was either thinking:
    a) behind the RNS-e itself... It's a bit tight behind there, or
    b) below the climate control unit, inside the centre console

Gutted the days are getting shorter!

Hi satj, I'm following your thread closely, as I'm considering to upgrade from my current BNS 5.0...
-may I ask how much did you pay for the rns-e and the bt module, we're they used? :)

    runnernorth,
    - RNS-e was £400ish, used but in immaculate condition
    - bluetooth module was brand new. It's a plug and play kit, i.e. includes a harness ready to roll! I got it from carsystems.pl, all OEM parts... About £250.

Oh and also, if someone could be kind and help me do the coding I would be most grateful. I'm based in Bedford but will be happy to travel if it's more convenient. Of course, you will be remunerated! I tried PM-ing a few after checking out the VCDS owners map, but to no avail.

    Cheers in advance

Hi sat, thx for your reply, the prices sound fair IMO. Hopefully you'll have someone to help you with the coding.
    Have a nice day :)

    Retrofit complete!

I ended up fitting the Bluetooth module below the steering wheel on the centre console side, and the GPS antenna in the left 'A' pillar when I was routing the mic cable.

All coded and works sweet. Cheers to those who inputted!
