I emailed Jamie from superchips last night regarding if there was chance of tweaking my current map to suit my engine better to gain a few horses and this is the reply i got.

    Hi Robin,

We have just released the following maps for the 2.0FSI-T (less than 24 hours ago). The 2.0T is limited by two factors in standard trim, firstly the wastegate is running nearly 100% with the stage 1 map and secondly the injectors duty cycle is approaching 309degrees, therefore covering the entire induction stroke and most of the compression stroke, add in 20 degrees of spark and you can see there is little time for vapourisation. Stage 2 frees up the turbo and the limitation comes down to fuel alone.

Stage 3 is a fairly major job, the turbo, injectors and most of the pipework from the S3, ED30/ Pirelli are employed to give us 290BHP, this again is limited by fueling and the final tweak is to add the camshafts from the aforementioned to up the volume of fuel the high pressure pump is capable of flowing to give 305BHP.

Tweaking any of the maps to get as close to these limitations as possible can give small improvements on some cars, a car with a slightly stiffer actuator may make close to stage 2 power anyway and conversely a car with a weak actuator may struggle even with an exhaust. There has been changes made to the camshafts over the engines life too, rumours that the early engines have a soft fuel pump lobe have come to light with the release of uprated high pressure pumps, we will be exploring this avenue in the future.

You are welcome to come down to us for a power test during the week for £50+vat, we will log your engines performance and identify how close we are to its limits and adjust your map if necessary. Alternatively you could organize a group of 18-20 cars to visit us on a Saturday for a mornings power testing for £30 inc vat each. Data would be gathered on this occasion but adjustments are not practical due to the time restriction. Please feel free to post this release and any of the above if it is useful.

    Regards,

    Jamie

Sounds like it is possible but with the wastegate and injectors working its absolute arse off i think its near to the limit unless hardware is changed.

Will you be going down there to assess the limits and have some 'tweaks' made???

I am tempted but looking at the email it looks like the engine is pretty much working 100% therefore squeezing a few more ponies would be minimal.

If i get time in the next month or so i'll go down and have it rolling road'd to see what kinda performance the engine is putting out as it is.

What mods have you got on your car currently, engine wise??

In terms of fuelling, S3 injectors and a VF fuel pump and map to suit would really bump up the mid range and people with all bolt on's plus that set-up are seeing in the region of 290+BHP and 330+Ft/Lbs..

nothing done to the engine so far apart from the remap.

i think in order to get a output from the engine with S3 injectors and uprated fuel pump it would need better air intake system and also exhaust which is going to be mega bucks!

    Ah ok yeah..

I would recommend this as your shopping list for the K03 turbo..

Re-map (shame you didnt go for the GIAC but sure that Superchips will be fine)
    OEM S3 Intercooler £300
    Forge DV £150
Milltek downpipe with sports cat £500 or go custom for £300
2.75"/3.00" Cat back system £350 or go custom for £200
    Custom PCV mod £40
    Evoms/Dbilas intake kit £250
Vf Engineering (Autotech) Fuel pump £250

So its not that much money really considering the power increase (£1500) You will see 290-300bhp and 330+ft/lbs with this set up..

After all of that then you still have the option of going for the S3 turbo/Injectors and getting it up to 350bhp - 350ft/lbs for another grand or so.. Pretty cool as you will be able to retain all of your previous mods so you can easily do it in stages..

Sorry, spending peoples money again, but it would be niceeeeeeee!

Wow... with the K03? Do you think its pushing the little turbo too hard?

Yes thats pushing it pretty hard, well as far as it will go really, but its a cheap way of getting that type of power..

Plus, the worst thing that happens is you blow the turbo.. Then you get an excuse to buy a K04 and make more power!! :):):)

Blocks off the inlet manifold to the PCV and allows the car to run more boost in certain conditions.. Cheap and easy to do, I have been running like this for 6 months without any problems, Regal have ran the same set up on their GTI Race car for 2 full seasons without any troubles.. :)

I don't think you'll see those figures from a KO3 with those mods. I have similar myself -

    Revo
    Auto Tech Pump
    Evoms
    Milltek Cat Back
    S3 Cooler and S3 Pipes
    Nuespeed Turbo Out Pipe
    Relocated DV (K04 style)
    V-Power

I saw 266hp and about 320lb last saturday on a genuine Dyno Dynamics setup.

Don't get me wrong, those sort of mods will transform your car without a shadow of a doubt and you'll love driving it.

If I were you I'd seriously consider the Fuel Pump and an Intake and then get Superchips to run your car and modify your map. If you can stretch to the cooler it is excellent value and well worth adding. The OEM exhuast isn't overly restrictive IMHO so you can achieve quite a bit more power and have some fun before you need to invest.

BSH have an interesting little product for the PCV fix that might be worth considering if you feel you need it.

After discussions with Regal, that is the exact route I was planning to take for my car!

Just need to add some super grippy tyres and a quick prayer that FWD can handle it.

    thanks for the info stu

seems like you haven't gained that much more from all the mods you have done.

when i first remapped mine i RR'd it and it produced 235bhp but it was suffering from misfire top end, when superchips updated the tune the misfire had been solved but i haven't RR'd car with this tune.

I reckon the engine is producing 240-245bhp currently just on the bluefin, reason being is that a friend of mine has a Mk4 R32 Golf (240bhp) and the A3 pulls a good 2-3 car lengths from it no problem.

I don't really want to start another RR debate I'll simply say that IMHO it isn't feasible to achieve upwards of 240 horses with software alone on the K03.

I'm on my second Octy vRS and I have seen a great many KO3 cars who've run on a great many RR with a great variation in results.

Echoing what I said above, even if you don't have the 240 or so horses you'd hoped for I'll bet that your car is a hoot to drive. The reason being is that you'll have a great lump of diesel like torque from very low down the range right on up towards the end.

Although it's a REVO flash this will be fairly indicitive of the results I have grown to expect from a Stage I flash -

    Standard downpipe??

If so thats the reason, the downpipe upgrade is worth the most power on the 2.0T FSI engine second only to a re-map..

A car with the same mods as mine but with the downpipe and running the fuel pump program from REVO peaked at 285hp, so yes you will see more with the DP but not as much as 300hp IMHO. Again only my opinion based on what I've seen.

Thanks guys, this is a great thread.

I am seriously considering taking down my 2.0TFSI down this sort of route. Personally I am planning to take my car to APS and take it up to their stage 3:

    http://www.autops.co.uk/html/vw_golf_mkv_gti.html

    Stage 3

As with Stages 1 and 2, Stage 3 combines the custom ECU remap with the cat back sports exhaust but in addition to this uses Milltek Sport high flow cat set and downpipe. The reduction in back pressure allows a safe increase in boost pressure beyond Stage 1 and 2 levels whilst maintaining safe exhaust gas temperature levels.
Not only does this allow greater BHP to be achieved but it allows the 2.0T engine to breathe more efficiently in the mid and high range rpm's. Again like the cat back system, the Milltek Sport cats are totally road legal.

Yeah as I said you should see up to 290-300bhp with that set up, seriously mate considering all that you have done to your car I would highly recommend the downpipe for your car..

Its not just the peak power that is affected, its torque and power all the way through the rev range, the throttle response is transformed and it sounds even nicer!! :) What im saying is that it may only make 15bhp+ peak power increase but the car will in fact be much quicker after the upgrade..
