Firstly id like to thank trups for doing this kit and emmo for the spare set of lights that he sent me.

While i was doing it I thought that i would do something a little different and choose shadow chrome but left the reflectors and shrouds alone and painted the base black. While i was at it i had my spare grill surround and rings painted shadow chrome to match and awaiting wing mirrors to be picked up in the new year.

Hope you guys like it as much as i do even though the pics dont do them justice.

Yeah went for a quick drive earlier Emmo, main beam is sooo much better now.

You can get shadow chrome from here Custom Paint | Pearl Paint | Chrome Paint - SpecialistPaints.com but the ones i fitted today were actually painted at a local place to me as the 2k laqcour that i brought with the paint from those guys reacted and i could not be bothered to do it myself again.

    They look Great Luke.

I hope the dipped beam is better than stock also? lol.

here is a picture of another car I did and got the cut off like this

made sure the cutoff was perfectly aligned, then set the lights to number 3 height, (highest setting)

id say I was about 30ft away from the shutter, and adjust both lights manually, go for a drive, as long as you don't see the light in oncoming drivers face then they are perfect and wont dazzle other road users.

get pictures up of your cutoff up in the morning and what they shine like on a unlit street if you can? :)

dipped beam are normal driving lights, full beam would be main i think, deppends what you would call it.

Great work guys, the lights/photos look brilliant.

Quick question though, how will you get around the MOT requirements for washers, etc?
I'm thinking bout doing the same to my A3 8P now...

Had no time to fit mine yet. Hope to next week if I can get a clear couple of days.
Would love to black out the lights but might leave that until later in the year - priority is to see where I am going!

Finally got around to fitting. Had to abort final bumper fitting due to a storm hitting, but I am really very impressed with the kit.
    Many thanks to Trups!!!
Fitting the first projector took me around 5 hours and the second one an hour. Took longer than planned due to the weather, but overall a fairly straight forward process.
Will post some pics when I get it finished off and if it ever stops raining!

You can always just put a h1 halogen in for mot.

If washers are not fitted they can't test for them, there are cars out there with xenons that don't have washers.

Cracking, the 2nd picture look like they are OEM.

    Any output pictures?

You been out in it yet in the night?

condensation may come as you may of put too much sealant in there so the lense aint in tight and not sitting how it should.

you should put sealent in bit by bit, roll it in your hands to stretch it out and get in the the chamber without any over lap if that makes sense.

Another group by will be coming up in the next 2 weeks for thos who missed the 1st so keep an eye out.

Dimitar, I'm not sure where you're based, but in the UK, you are legally required to have washers (spray/wiper) and sensors (on the suspension arms for Audi's) and then either automatically adjusting suspensions or automatically tilting headlight beam - which is why the OEM components are so much cheaper than the aftermarket ones where you just replace the bulb and add a ballast (even into a projector unit, it is still illegal).

It is also illegal to provide a service to fit these units or to sell a car with Xenons without the washing / AUTO-levelling and it is illegal to deactivate the auto-levelling / remove the washers (popular with some show'n'shine people who want a smoother look).

The MOT regs were changed in 2013 to partially reflect this: in the initial proposal in Sep-2012, ALL aftermarket kits would be immediate MOT fails unless they had OEM spec auto levelling and washers, this was subsequently toned right down because the MOT stations weren't kitted out to test washer systems (drain off) or run auto-levelling diagnostics so that only it was reworded so now the car will only fail it's MOT if those are fitted and "obviously defective", which perversely makes an illegal retrofit LESS likely to fail than a factory fitted setup.

Provided your beam is adjusted properly (i.e. should be raked with a left upward slant and dipped down on the right, NOT flat like the previous posts), you will probably pass your MOT each year for the next few years at least. Some old school MOT guys will fail it on principle, but you'll eventually find a testing station that is just looking to tick the boxes.

That said, a car can easily pass an MOT and not be road legal, especially if due to a modification. MOT just tests that wear and tear maintenance is being done, it is NOT a catch-all or any sort of confirmation that your car is road-legal.

If you are then in an accident (e.g. head-on collision) and the other driver claims that he was dazed by your headlights or (God forbid) is is in no state to make such claims, but the police investigation concludes that is the likely scenario, then your car will be declared illegally modified and your insurance company will deem your insurance invalid due to an illegal modification: leaving you to face prosecution (driving without insurance) AND pick up all the other person's insurance costs: car, medical and compensation.

That is a VERY unlikely scenario and you'd have to be very unlucky to end up down that route, BUT it is possible. You decide.

Thanks m8 for all this ! I'm based in Kent Maidstone and i ask all this question because i saw a lot of b7 owners to do that ! I want to do it aswell but because i'm from different country i don't know the regulation and excuses here ! Yes in my country stull pass the MOT Only on paperwork but here some stations they are BIG basters !
The problem is not the headlights i know but ... I will think about it !
Thanks again for you spend time !

Don't be put off doing this, you don't have to put a hid kit into the headlight you can put a normal bulb in and everything should be legal, obviously make sure that the beam alignment is correct, with a normal bulb you wouldn't need self levelling or washers.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this would be legal.

In the UK you do NOT have to have either headlight levelling or headlight washers to pass the MOT if you have HIDs, but if either of them are fitted they MUST work.

If you don't believe me read Section 1.7 of the latest edition of the MOT Inspection Manual where it says:
My daily drive, a Citroen C1, passed it's MOT with 55W aftermarket HIDs last month - if there had been any question I would have shown the tester the Guidelines - and gone to appeal if necessary (it wasn't).

    Dave,

Going on that, my friend has a brand new E Class with adaptive LED headlights, no Washer system fitted to the headlights at all.
