Any more info on how the shroud needs to be trimmed and what type of glue to secure it with?

you need to trim the shroud at the back, if you look at the vid you can see the trim, its trimmed there so its fits in flush.

in terms of glue I had just had a tube come to me I got off ebay, I have some lights in this morning I will be adding the angel eyes too from a bmw so I will use this glue, if it works well and says what it does on the tin il put the link up for you.

t8ups - what products are you using in the £60 kit? projector brand, lens type and mounting option? I did this with a fairly high market kit from Europe. Are they the solenoid powered Bi-Xenon options?

For anyone curious my thread has some DIY photos of the installation process as does Audizine.

not to put a downer on things, but those two lines should be perfectly aligned for a clear cut off. Is that because the headlights need adjusting or because the projectors aren't level? ideally the lights needs to be mounted on the car, turned on and the projectors tweaked so the lines are level and matching. It's pretty much impossible to get any rotational adjustment from the light housing.

If you can supply pictures then that would be good or a link to your DIY.

The picture was taken before aligning., as they are on a BMw access was easy to sort as the lamps are not sealed.

The are the Morimoto H1 bi xenon projector kit, it will be the stock lense that comes with the kit which is not the clear.

Ah yes a good quality kit! that's really good price too. And that makes more sense about aligning the BMW. Below are a few photos of the process, and a link to a DIY that shows what needs to be filled down and how to fit the units. As well as a quick Video, however the video doesn't show two fiddly bits that need addressing with a dremel (cheap one from halfords does the trick)

Video: Audi A4 B7 Mini H1 Bi xenon projector headlight retrofit full tutorial - YouTube (this does not show that you need to dremel off the tabs where the screw nut tightens against the housing.

Build from Audizine: HID Projector Retrofit-- mini DIY (this shows the tabs on the rear of the light that need to be trimmed down. ALSO the current halogen 'shroud' that is removed in the process, the bit that sicks out in the reflector housing needs to be snapped off or cut back (won't be seen as the projector unit covers the entire area)

IMPORTANT - For those doing this, you must install the projector unit, hand tighten the unit and place the lights securely back onto the car. Then plug the lights in and ensure the beam pattern in level. Once all straight and level, use a pen to mark the projector housing against the headlight housing and then tighten the lock screw up. THEN glue the shroud to the front of the projectors.

    hope that helps -

below is were I mounted my slim line ballasts ( I have since wrapped the cables in OEM electrical loom tape for the 100% OEM look)
They're mounted using the inner arch Torx bolts. Both sides have room for them and keeps them dry, out the way and safe

Thanks for the input on these, you have done a great job on yours so thumbs up, the beam pattern looks exactly like my new mini cooper s that's 6 months old and has factory xenons. this is how all headlights should be, also a lot safer as well.

I have done this price to help members out so they don't have to pay out for depots or factory bi xenons.

Also thanks for the extra input, I am sure the guys with in this little group buy will use it as its great.

Hi Trups, any updates on those 2 B7's? I'd like to see some pictures when done (especially of the cab). I still can't make me mind whether to go for the OEM items or save some bucks and do this conversion...

    Hi.

No pictures yet, been flat out over the weekend so I have not been over to carry out the retrofit, will try get over this week to get it going.

The cab cancelled as he put a deposit down on it but something was wrong with the car so didn't get, he is just keeping hold of the Avant and is looking for a Cab.

As mentioned by Trups above I fitted the retro kits to my lights and am very impressed.
The whole process took me around 4 hours.

The HID kit was good quality with nice slim ballasts, the wiring is heavy duty with twin fuses. No dash errors or interference, the lights fire up instantly when turned on.

As for the lighting its a massive improvement over stock halogens. Main beam is amazing too.

For anyone else thinking of the upgrade do it, its a fraction of the cost of oem xenons too.

Thanks to Trups for a top quality kit.

So with these retro fit kits does the original full beam bulb still work or is it by passed and full beam is through the xenon part only?

The original full beam still works. The kit is bixenon and if you use the splitter wire then you have the xenon full beam too.

How you going about painting these, just done a pair of shrouds with high gloss VHT paint and there's a few runs on them unfortunately.

Thanks Emmo, was tempted but not keen on halogen full and xenon main on at the same time. Suppose it might look ok with xenon effect full beam bulbs… Might wait until more people have done the conversions and I'll make my mind up then

You could disconnect the main beam halogen but the xenons would not power up unless you use a bi xenon loom, a lot of wiring and a lot of errors on the b7 to work around.

If the xenons are not on then only you halogen full beams will work, if the xenons are on then the halogen and xenon will be on, so at night this would be a bonus as you would have twice the amount of light.

Why are you not keen on having both on? From a safety point of view on a dark road you would get better light output than the factory bi xenons.

Just a personal thing of I don't think it looks right with having the halogen bulb lit up next to a xenon unit, it just doesn't look right to me. I can see where your coming from on the safety aspect having 4 sets of lights on, and I suppose if you fit whiter light bulbs it won't look as out of place.

Like I say if more people add pictures of their conversions it might change my mind, but at the moment I'd rather go the whole hog and get full OEM xenons.

Wet sanded with 1200 grit and painted them with shadow chrome aerosol can and finished with 2k lacqour aerosol but for some strange reason the indicator parts have reacted.

So after spending £50 on paint and hours of sanding, cleaning and painting etc, i'm now giving them to my local bodyshop to do as i can't be arsed to redo it in the cold evenings in the shed.

I haven't painted my shrouds but i painted the rest with lots of light coats with 10 minutes between until i got a nice even coat. Can you not just flat them back and retry.

I bought a set of spare headlights to do the retrofit on but realised they had broken tabs on them and mounts missing ao O ended up retrofitting the set on my car.
So ive got spare parts for both headlights if anyone needs anything then let me know.

I have resistors in place for my side lights as I was running cheap LEDs and I hated the look of halogens when lighting up on full beam so I simply wired the Main Beam to the resistor to ensure NO error and inserted LED H7's. However OEM xenons use the ''main'' beam H7 port as the 'running light' so you could re-wire the H7 LED Bulb to the side light wiring so it came on instead of your side lights... OR do what I did and remove the Side lights AND disconnect the Main Beam (no error due to resistor) No issues for light output at all.

As you can see in the photos I uploaded I sprayed my light reflector housing AND shrouds satin black (no need for VHT) all I did was rub it over with 1200 to 'key' the surface, wiped down with alcohol wipe and warmed the surfaces with a heat gun. 1 light dusting allowed to dry, and a little more heat before each of the following two coats of satin black = no runs at all and a perfect finish (build thread has more photos)
