Replacing the gear knob, how do you get it off?

I'm replacing the gear knob on my 04 saloon, 6 speed, and thought I'd aks here before attempting to remove it.....does anyone know how you get it off to fit an aftermarket one?

Don't know if they're the same but the B5 version just screws off.

Brilliant. The metal clip was easily removed and I now have a great MoMo F16 gear knob to "play with".
