Hello all, I know this has been discussed many times but just wanted to ask a few things..

Firstly my car is an avant 1.9tdi with the awx engine I have had new cambelt, waterpump, clutch and flywheel and was thinking it is time for a remap. I have fitted a pipercross panel filter and run the car on v power all the time.

I was wondering if users could post their figures and opinions on how the remap changed the car for better or worse in some cases.

    Thanks in advance.

Remapped my vrs 1.9 130bhp and this audi 1.9 130bhp.
Remap took both to roughly 165-170bhp.
Map obviously made the car feel a lot quicker and smoother, fuel improvement.. Nah didn't/haven't noticed any improvement.
You've fitted new clutch and flywheel which is a great thing to do before map as mine is starting to slip now on original clutch which has done 102,000 miles.
Cannot see panel filter doing much for you as diesels take in excess air anyway.

Your gonna smoke a little more but that's the fun bit when giving it some beans.

Would say if anything the filter will hinder performance but wouldn't like to say as I'm sure pipercross and fans of aftermarket filters would widely disagree. Map will make it allot better just make sure everything's running spot on before doing it as any minor issues now will become allot more apparent after doing it.

Agree with above, Thinking I was doing the right thing I fitted a green filter into a Subaru (premap), even with increased air flow it turned out I had actually reduced performance. After the map it was an improvement though. If you make alterations to stock you will benefit more from a bespoke map as opposed to an 'off the shelf' version which are usually tailored more to unmodified engines.

I remapped my awx 1.9 myself using blacksmoke remaps. Huge difference in power. Really does feel like someone pulled the banana out of the exhaust.

I put a BlackSmoke map on my AVF engined 1.9 Tdi Avant Quattro.... very easy to do if you have the right gear
it went from 130 to 163 if i remember correctly not a massive improvment and after getting my clutch and flywheel done
at Darkside they reconned they could get more out of it with a custom map which I don't doubt they can but for me the Backsmoke
Map being on the concervative side means it's not stressing my high milage motor too much and i get barely any smoke if any at all
the car revs a lot more freely and the increased torque is very noticable .... MPG wise it is a touch better when cruising around 60mph but that gets offset by the fun factor :)

Hahaha loving it - The Fun Factor - Is that the same as a heavy right foot, as my car seems to suffer from that lol

So when you say its easy to do with the right stuff, right stuff??
& once you have used it once does it delete its self from ya laptop or can you use it again? Only thinking as no point in everyone buying it if someone already has it!!

Here is the rolling road results for my 130 pd AWX Passat.

There are three runs on there, standard (red ) one with an Alpin digital tuning box (dark blue) and one with a custom code phase 1 map (light blue) .
The top three traces are the power and bottom three torque. The numbers are a little low as the dyno only calculated transmission losses at 11%, so you could add a few bhp to each reading. The main thing you can see is the difference between standard and mapped, it's night and day in the way the car drives. The Blacksmoke map is a generic one that is safe and gives a good increase without really pushing the clutch / transmission or engine too much.
As for performance air filters they are pretty much a waste of time on these cars as the standard one is so good, and if you use an oiled filter there is every chance it will screw the MAF up.

:lmfao: thought you meant 220bhp, sounds an alright price and whichever map you go for will be decent can't see how people can really say one is better than the other when most only ever go for the one.

Fun factor is indeed the heavy right foot... the right gear is a quality lead and I found Windows 7 to be much easier than XP..... you get to save your original map and obviously you have a copy of your new map and you can chop and change between the 2 at will and neither will be deleted..... all good in my book.... you just need to be confident with your laptop / software and car and read up before you do it

just reading back on your post...I guess your thinking of people sharing the map ?? .... well it's not just the engine code that has to match you also need the same ECU code and whilst some people will indeed share the same It seems a bit harsh to start sharing as the original prices are so good...and if you screw up your car you get backup from Blacksmoke which obviously if you cant prove where you got your map from you aint gonna get

Have a word with Rick at Unicorn Motor developments. He is one of the forum sponsors and is really good. He mapped my 3.0 TDI, I am very happy. He is in Stockport.

Plus here with a BlackSmoke remap, was easy enough to do, excellent value for money and it's not an aggressive map on the hardware components side of things.
