Hi all. Dont really know the finer points of a remapping, but can someone explain why it seems to be rather a lot of money? I've had two quotes for Revo at around the £500 mark.
Is it to do with the development costs involved in the softwear? or something else?
Does anyone else think its expensive? or value for money? Are the gains really worth the outlay?
i'm not trying to do anyone an injustice who supplies/involved in remapping, just wondering whats involved in reaching the price of a remap.

You're paying for the reliability too, and the knowledge that the map is tested and proven. I know a guy who just got a mate with a rolling road to sort out a custom map... he seems happy with it, but it's not as smooth as the big name maps, and didn't give him the gains you can see on other maps either.

Also, it's just a case of going in and getting your ECU flashed, not spending days on a rr tuning and tweaking the settings.

As you know just had Revo paddy! I looked into a few and the Mrs has the AMD on her 2.0T which is a nice map, but she had Revo on her first A3 2.0T which i liked as it was very aggresive.

As mine is a 2011 plate I wanted the reasurrance and Revo in my mind was the best option and i've VERY pleased.

p.s. ensure you are running your car on 98 / 99 ron and makes a hugh difference

    Ok, for balance.

Ive had 3 REVO`d cars and been very happy. MK4 Golf, MK5 Golf, 8PS3.
Aftersales is second to none too.

Its not a cheap product however, but it enables an upgrade path should you want it.
Its easly switchable to standard settings (not OEM) with the correct hardware. (thats another £100-£200) So you are covered for warranty work.
    Its Motorsport proven.
    Its sold Worldwide.

That said, I know someone who recently had a local tuners `own` generic MK5 Gti map. Paid £250 during a promotion and is very happy with it with great results on the rolloers, so dont write of lesser know maps if you want bang for buck.

Remember though that some maps can be as much as a couple of hundred quid to re instate if the dealer decides to re flash the ECU for whatever reason (its happened to me more than once).
REVO, and others for that matter, are FOC, so make sure to check this.

I dont have experience with other maps so cant say whether they are good or bad.

Some experience based facts for you to chew over and FWIW if I buy another VAG then I will more than likley go with REVO again.

    Good luck.

    Paul

Gotta say, I've always had revo maps.. (mkiv golf gti stage 1, 8LS3 stage 2, TT stage 3...!) and I've never had a problem with either the map or the service from the respective dealers... Also have much love for their sps key system, which meant the mrs could drive the car too without it scaring the absolute roses out of her!
I'm probably gonna go revo again, I just wonder about other manufacturers maps as tbh I have no experience with any other than revo.......

The big company's like revo, giac to name two go into many parameters of the ecu and running of the car and spend thousands upon thousands breaking the ecu's security to do this, where as a lot of smaller tuning firms just offer a remap/flash downloaded on to a customers ecu where things like fuelling, boosting, rev limiters are raised ( ok a lot more than this ) but the rumour is when one company did manage to break the security on a expensive map and try and work out the adjustments they are generally lost not knowing how,why etc they set or adjusted what they did and why they did,as mentioned above its peace of mind the big companys have spend loads on testing through out the world experimenting on different fuels, making sure AFR readings are safe across the board, making sure the car doesnt run too linear, start deptting causing engine damage, making sure there not over boosting, making sure the tempratures are ok.

Revo software i didnt used to like as it used to surge the power where as GIAC has always been super smooth but now there isnt much in them at all and Revo are getting some good results and praise in the tuning world now and seem to be pushing there business forward nicely.

Not ignoring any other firms i havnt mentioned but a lot of cars are all seeming to be getting the same standard figures now days, then the big company's who dont stop developing there software think we can do a bit more here and alter something there and thats where the stage 2+ and hammer extreme maps come from

So I own a diesel A4 1.9tdi, but I've still had a remap. Shark performance for me also. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it's great! The difference is immense.

FR&RTuning for me, they do their own and also Revo remaps. You can see the success of their software with the achievements their south africa agents are having using their software. BTW I wonder how long before Shark start offering Revo.
