Remap 162bhp

    Thought on how long turbo or clutch will last as both still stock was 130 Quattro with 150k now has 154k clutch slipped for a day week after remap but been fine since

    Seems to be a fairly tame bhp figure considering most pd130 Quattros are said to put out more than the factory quoted 128bhp & 229lb/ft as standard.

    I've heard that some of the remap companies, such as Revo, have these kinds of figures though when others claim that the standard engine can be tuned easily up to circa 175bhp & 280lb/ft with just a remap.

    I've no idea what kind of boost pressure the turbo runs at as standard or when remapped. Maybe someone can shed some light on this?

    If I were you I'd get the EGR completely cleaned out and then blanked off and then get the intake manifold completely stripped and cleaned at the very least. If the turbo works fine so far then its probably okay, but it probably wouldn't hurt to get it stripped down and re-fettled if you have the money. There's no reason then why the internals shouldn't last another 100k miles.

    The clutch might be a different story though so I'd be careful that you don't rag the nuts off the car all the time. I'd be more subtle and progressive with my acceleration if I were you.

    Interesting stuff though because my standard 1.9 TDi 130 Quattro Sport has 129k on the clock and I'm very interested in getting the thing mapped one day. The clutch has slipped a little under heavy acceleration the odd time and so I'm wary of what I remap might do to it.

    Does anyone know if there's anything you can do with a clutch with this kind of mileage on it that might tighten it up slightly and prevent minor slipping without having to replace the whole thing?

    Mine peaks at about 28 psi then levels of at about 24. I have same car 158 thousand on and I've done about 8 thousand miles on the map with no clutc issues and I've owned the car three Years and believe it's still on original clutch plus I'm running a hybrid turbo. No doubt it will slip when I finally get it custom mapped thou lol.

    Think you answered your own question there mate. You said your clutch has slipped under heavy acceleration. Avoid heavy acceleration, certainly in the lower gears, accelerate progressively as you mentioned. Try avoid riding the clutch and generaly nurse it a little. Works for me anyway and I drive the car hard, but carefuly :)

    I can't quote exact BHP as I havn t had it mapped again yet but I have the black smoke map on which I think is 167 bud .

    How does the car drive compared to standard?

    I'm assuming the improved torque is something else?

    What else is different? (sound, smoothness, economy, low end/top end??)

    Yeah I generally do avoid full bore acceleration 99% of the time but on the odd occasion I've found myself doing it I've felt the clutch slip a little.

    What I was getting at was mine appears to have slipped a couple of times in std spec so if it had been mapped I'd be even more careful, especially as our cars have 120k+ miles on their respective clutches.

    When i had my stock turbo with remap,my gauge was reading 1.6 - 1.7bar of boost.
    On orig clutch still, with 150k+ and now running bigger turbo.
    My figures were 179bhp + 310lb ft.
    Not great,but will be aiming higher.

    It's true for saving the clutch but just can't see it happening.

    Yes its not always easy and to some degree defeats the purpose of having increased torque. A nice beefy clutch is desirable but just the thought of lying underneath it swapping out the clutch not to mention the cost of an uprated item is enough for me to go easy on it at the traffic light GP, I find once up above 30mph or so I can then apply full throttle no problems.

    Yes same don't do much harsh accelerating just nice to have the extra power. Also dark side egr delete estimated 162 I went for which I would say feels right. He also has a 180 bhp map. Huge improvement 4wheel drive so haven't had it on the rollers yet engine sounds the same no more noise on tick over or acceleration drives smother hits 1.7 bar then a steady 1.5 mpg the same. That sound a good power output 179 to 162 mine a flyer now

    Mine slipped and a remap cured it !!

    It was a 175 bhp low torque map. Months later put it on the rollers and it made with egr disable and 2.5" exhaust, 178.5 bhp and 265 ft lb on a hot day.

    It had a remarkable flat torque curve which meant I always have 250 ft lb available through the rev range where other higher peak outputs come and go too quickly.

    I might strip turbo give it a good clean iv checked for play and all is good there. Already had the inlet off cleaned all that up that's why I went full egr bypass what gearbox 5 or 6 speed as iv heard different things for the 5 speed not as good as the 6 ? I no the 6 has a bigger clutch

    A remap shouldn't increase the boost by more than around 150mbar. It's not really the boost increase where the extra power from but the fuel qty and timing.

    What you saying remap is poor whats the cost of a good one ? Hope to get a better one and hybrid turbo in a wile when money allows

    My PD130 didnt slip on the standard map.

    Slipped in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th on the REVO 170bhp/280lbft map, until the turbo failed and was replaced. Dead turbo had been overboosting at low revs (possibly sticky VNT vanes) according to the garage, as soon as the new turbo was on, no slippage.

    P.S. mycar was on 197k when I got it, and is now on 203k........and its the original clutch (it was a company car before I got it - hence mileage - and I think I have EVERY receipt it ever had, with no reference to a clutch anywhere).

    My DMF is starting to get noisy so will be replacing it some time soon and will do the clutch then.

    To be fair, I do get slip if I'm being lazy and have my foot resting on the clutch, but fully engaged, it never slips. I think its had a gentle life up and down motorways.

    My REVO one cost £299 +VAT, but is quite an aggressive map apparently. The Blacksmoke one is supposed to be good I've heard.

    I think my original map was about 170,but to shove a bv43 turbo,with existing mods,i was expecting a bit more than 179bhp,i was there most of the day too.
    £££ varys,id assume a decent map £300-£500, the latter being with dyno n print outs.
