    Saturday morning.

Ben picked me up at 9 30ish and by the time we had picked power steering fluid and another McDonalds we started about 10 /10-15. Got the engine in, all plumbed up apart from the fmic and the joiner between the downpipe and the cat.

Headed out for some bits in what turned out to be a pointless journey and a waste of 2 hours, apart from a burger king and some 8mm fuel line to use for coolant pipe.

We started the car before fitting the joiner and it was loud, but sounded awesome. On the 3s map it idled fine, but on the new map it idled awfully. Dan had done the map blind so we couldn't really blame him!

    First Start:

How it ran with the K04 map:

Got the welly cooler fitted and the car was ready by about 9pm.

We then went back to trying to sort the mapping problem. After Dan became even more of a legend by trying to help until gone 11, we called it a night and decided to pop to Guildford on Sunday.

I think if I had not tried to get a 225 map on to my a3 ecu, we hadn't put the wellycooler on and hadn't made the pointless trip the car could have been done by about 4pm. That would have been 10 – 11 hours for a complete transplant which isn't that bad.

    Sunday

Tidied up the workshop, fitted some new pipe to the boost gauge, took the car for a test run with the N75 unplugged and set off for Guildford.
Got to Dans, sorted the mapping and took it for a spin, where it was boosting 27psi.. Turned that down a bit and found that with a more progressive foot (which you can do with a turbo that has a bit of power!) it would boost to 24ish.

At home after a pretty sensible drive:

And how it went to Guildford, obviously minus the open bonnet:

Going to adjust it on unisettings tomorrow and put the lower part on the bumper, but apart from that the car is done.

Not many people knew about this, and it's been very difficult keeping it quiet for the last 2 weeks, especially with a couple of k04 conversions going on.

Now to sell a few bits to get some money back!

    The Creation Motorsport TIP.

As I had ordered a k03s TIP from CM, I spoke to them and got it changed for their larger TIP. After hearing some things about the dodgy fitment and poor quality, I decided to make my own judgement and seeing as they offer a moneyback guarantee, and with discount it was only £85 I really had nothing to lose.

    Got the TIP:

It is very good quality, 5 ply and the billet was also very nice. It even came with clamps, which I wasn't sure if it was going to..

Putting the TIP on was a doddle. Billet was a bit tight but went on easy enough and the TIP fitted like a dream. Didn't need to chop it to get a cone filter on, the outlets were in the right place and that's about it really.

A very nice piece of kit despite it's design origins. I would have happily paid full price for it, and this should dispel the poor fitment myth.

Got to say an absolutely massive thanks to Ben, or as he is known on here: BENJAMIN

I literally could not have done it without him, although I probably wouldn't have done as he was the main abuse giver when it came to the K03s! The guy is a whizz with the spanners, despite being a thief :lmfao: and he even travelled for the ride to Guildford today. Cheers mate, you *** Sancho.

Also thanks to Jay for keeping it quiet, Dan for sorting the mapping and McDonalds and Burger King for sorting the food.

    Thanks Dave, I think.

Cheers Karl, was hard to keep it quiet in the Pub!

Doing some logging on the run to work tomorrow. Feels epically fast and I'm not even thinking about the fact that at some point I'll get used to it and want more.

The map needs a bit of tweaking. It's a bit rich on idle and I need to add a resistor to where the VVT was, but for now it's fine.

I tried to let people know I was looking at k04's in the future so that any time I had to ask any of the pub lot for k04 bits, that covered my tracks. I think I did pretty well. I was chatting to Prawn about heat shielding for my 'future' K04 conversion and when I saw him earlier in the week and he saw the engine, he was also amazed how it was so low key. Having seen some people shouting about them, I wanted to make sure it ran and went well before announcing the turbo change.

No idea what it's running Dave. Didn't want to worry about that earlier, and had seen enough of the car for the weekend!

Nice one mate, well done at keeping it all under wraps, you certinally did to have a lot more interest in k04 installs and gear lately but never suspected you was quietly sneakily shoehorning one in ;)

    Cheers mate.

It was pretty spur of the moment, but the 2 weeks seemed like a lifetime once I had the engine. Proper chuffed with it though, although it's currently drinking a lot of fuel as I like the loud pedal!

    Thanks mate

I think that as well Fred. A well sorted k04 is the way forward I think..

Rocker cover is here mate, I'll bring it to AITP next weekend for you. Stealthy k04 install ftw.

In an ideal situation, yes, but in my situation not really mate. Of course it would have been ideal, but with not telling anyone about the conversion I couldn't advertise any bits ready for sale, and I couldn't add the extra cost (+vat and all the costs from America) to the total spend. Just means that I'll get a large port head when I do the rods and rings and aim for that some time earlyish next year hopefully.

Reesy's car is the biggest inbred Audi known to VAG!

    - A3 TQS
    - 4 doors
    - TT engine
    - S4 wheels (when they're fitted)

If it had feet, they would be webbed!

Thanks mate. You think it was bad for you, I spend quite a lot of time chatting to most of the pub crew, having to lie to them about sorting out the k03s when all the while I had that waiting to go in.

The first time I put my foot down after Dan had tweaked the map was an awesome feeling. It feels very rapid, and within reason I'm not too bothered by numbers. You chase the numbers as you get bored.

I like to think that it's the thinking Yut's S3. As I only look about 14, I can happily drive around in a 5 door A3 and nobody needs to know that it has a stage 2 K04 hiding under the bonnet. Unfotunately, I think the weight of the rear doors counters the weight of their flared arches and bumpers, so we are probably pretty even. Besides, it's how you drive it. :rockwoot:

I was thinking this just yesterday, it can never go back to Audi, ever.

It also has S3/TT brakes on the front, S3 rear brakes. The ECU from a TT which is wideband on an originally narrowband engine and the cone filter from an s2000 Honda. I would never be able to sell it!

The TQS isn't much different in weight to the S3 Prawny, might be a little in it as S3 recaros are half the weight of the car but being a 4 door in this case may well balance that out... it will be quick with a K04 regardless :)

Reesy, how much heatshielding do you have in place? there isn't much to talk of on an A3 as it is with the mani sitting lower than a std K04... with the relentless it would be woefully inadequate... the bulkhead realistically needs to be shielded pretty much all the way up and also wrapped around by the servo and master cylinder... even though I can see in your pics you have wrapped some stuff you would be wise to use the alloy reflective type shielding on top of this... do not underestimate radiant heat mate... the relentless will glow like a mofo especially at 24psi....

I can confirm it is definitely quick.

I have some stuff on order, and was hopeful of getting it before the build began but the day I ordered it the eBay store fella went on holiday. I have seen the mani's in action and know they get very hot, so I'll be sorting that soon after it arrives. I think the fact that this is using all the k04 pipework means that the engine is more suited to the k04 style mani, but obviously with it being a relentless one necessary precautions have to be taken.

Took the car out tonight for a thrashing and some logging.

Think the car needs a new maf as it's only reading 195 g/s, but is definitely more then 20bhp faster then the old k03s setup.. Dan is having the car for a couple of hours on Wednesday evening to adjust the lambda readings and generally tweak the map to get it tip top, and after that this stage of the works will be complete.

The fuel pump can cope with what it's being asked, just. But just is enough, and when the load is turned down a bit and the timing tweaked, it should only get better, until the pump gets older and dies but I don't want to think about that now.

I will say that the k04 is a much easier and nicer setup to drive sensibly then the k03s. It's not constantly trying to spool every time you touch the throttle and isn't anywhere near as noisy in the induction roar department under 3.5k. Above that it's loud and sounds good. k04 ftw.

Just add an s2000 / Jetex then. £13 from carparts4less for the Honda filter.

If I could be arsed I would see if with trimming it would fit with an OE airbox, but as most people run a cone anyway, it's not really an issue.

The shed just needs the mapping tweaked, the bottom of the bumper putting on and to fit the new maf, work out if it's a maf problem then buy a genuine one. It also needs cleaning and emptying, fuel, heatshielding and a wash.

Not a lot before Saturday then.

Also going to attempt the new clock fitting tonight, and slap a fuel filter in it, innit.

    Oh and Ben: Suck S**t C***, I'm a winner.

Hmmmm, bit of a mixed bag tonight.

    Didn't get the bumper on.
Got the S3 clocks on and they look awesome, but getting the flashing immob symbol so need to get that off, and change the mileage to the correct amount, but as I said they look awesome.
Fitted a new MAF and immediately the numbers were up.
With the proper s3 map it made 288bhp. The boost needs winding down and the map is very rich, but we think that's due to it trying to dump fuel as if it was egt related..

The more this goes on, the more I think it would be easier to just whack the narrowband loom on and stick the above map on a narrowband ecu.

Also, pretty sure I have a ps leak. Need to check in the morning.
