Noticed this morning a weird rattle from the back box, i thought maybe a rubber had perished. Upon closer inspection it appears that the two clamps holding the rear box to the main pipe are totally corroded, as in absolutely knackered and corroded to virtually nothing.......

Was wondering if anyone else had this, im gonna try Euro in the morning as i really want to avoid U clamps from the local exhaust place, they are far from OEM and i dont really trust the nature of the clamp in that it loooks like it crushes the pipe

any suggestions would be welcome....oh and does anyone know what diameter im likely to need? i think without looking its a sleeve that connects the two pieces of exhaust

If its standard euro car parts should have them.

Common problem for due to age of the car? I mean oldest S3's are pushing 11 years old now - I should know, I own one! - means I better check mine out!

sorry, not been on all weekend.....Paul it's standard mate

i went to Euro parts in the end, took the old sleeve off and took down to size some other clamps up.... as they didnt have the required item in stock in the UK

ended up with what i think was an A3 item which was roughly 2 inch longer (sleeve) for £12....this wouldnt fit without removing the back box so i just took the two clamps off it and refitted to the old sleeve

cheers for ya help chaps :)

On another note.....as i have effectively had a leak before the rear box for some time (judging by the state of the removed clamps)...will this have affected my performance in any way due to lack of back pressure? i'd guess something marginal - just out of curiousity
