Rear Drop Links - Normal vs Heavy Duty

    Going to renew my rear drop links and I see there are two options

    Normal Drop Link - 1J0505466B
    Heavy Duty Suspension Drop Link - 1J0505466C

    The heavy duty one is described "for vehicles with rough road design" which sounds like Aberdeenshires roads to be honest.

    Does anybody know what makes the latter link heavy duty?

    Everything else is uprated and poly bushed so perhaps the heavy duty one is the way to go.

    searching google images suggests they look the same... maybe a stiffer rubber...

    The heavy duty type doesn't seem to return many results in Google unfortunately which suggests they aren't that common.

    I think I'll give them a bash because everything else is uprated.

    I've ordered the heavy duty ones for an experiment.

    Shall post photos and details this weekend assuming TPS don't let me down.

    Fronts are ball joints... no need for 'stiffer' ones... rears have one rubber bush and a ball joint..

    Droplinks in general are not expensive nor difficult to replace from my experience. Are they worth uprating?

    I upgraded to powerflex bushes up front and at the back. Replaced the ball joints, track rods, and ARB link bushes. Feels brilliant.

    You're right, but I bought them to satisfy my own curiosity.

    Should pick them up today so can see how they compare.

    Pretty sure they are a similar price to normal ones.

    Exactly the same price. Be interesting to see how they turn out. Always been interested in the heavy duty stuff looking on ETKA. Just never bothered ordering any of it incase we were stuck with it at work lol.

    Its a shame they never bothered making the welds heavy duty too.....

    Heavy duty are longer than standard this is the difference!!!!!'m

    Quite a bit longer too be fair would make backend a lot stiffer and durable!

    I don't know how the length of the droplinks can effect it's operation? You want to make the back in stiffer, buy a larger rear ARB, not extend the rear droplinks! :uhm:

    Well a longer arm would in turn increase tension on anti roll bar making it stiffer as shock won't travell as far! My theory anyway this is why there heavy duty take more load

    If you have extended drop links, the increase in tension is non existant, as you would fit them to both sides if the car, the ARB is not fixed, it works from one side of the axle to the other!
