I have a 2003 1.9tdi
lately I've noticed a really loud rattle coming from the rear passenger side, it sounds like a piece of trim Is loose but can't find anything
i only hear it when driving on bad roads with potholes etc

anyone else had any really bad rattles from this area (boot, rear arch area)

Pure guess work here, but have you tried checking the inner arch liner, or possibly a heat shield under the car?

I haven't had a chance yet, I've emptied the boot, lol just incase it was something in there
i removed the back bench too,

im putting it on the ramp tomorrow to check for heat plate, and undertray
also check my coilovers

Il get back to ya if I find aanything just was wondering if anyone else had rattles from that area at all

thanks

Check the rear shock top mounts. It's an aluminium mount with rubber inside and the rubber can split allowing the shock to rattle about in the housing.

Was it quite loud and sounded like it was inside the car?

I hope it is the heat plate ha, easy job
its too cold to be under a car

Yeah I will, I've Gota drop out lass of at work at 10.30 tonight so I will then. Lol

Its getting a new thermostat ad temp sender tomorrow aswell :)

Right, little update
had a quick look and I think it's the handbrake cable rattling against the plastic tray and exhaust heat plate

I tucked it under the tray and it stopped it for about 3mile ha
