I have an iPhone app called g-tac which measures acceleration using GPS. I just gave it a try just now on a 0-60 run stats below.

    0-30mph 2.21s
    0-60mph 5.97s

I fluffed the change to 2nd gear which cost me time, so could definitely go quicker. I am running Stage 1 shark.

    Other stuff:
    Traction control on
    Roughly 5k revs at launch
    Only need second gear
    AC on (it's hot!)
I have Opensky which I assume adds weight

Has anyone else tried similar and have verified times either GPS or from say RWYB days?

Any suggestions for a better time other than not messing up the gear change?

My car goes in to Warpspeed... The date on my iphone changes to like 3012 and then comes back to 2012 when slowing down.... :w00t:

The apps rely on the phone's internal accelerometer, plus the thing being properly calibrated and the phone then fixed securely to the car.....most of which don't happen,so you get results from disappointing through to amazing.

    "Only needed second gear"
Don't believe an S3 will do 60mph in second gear...hope you weren't going by the optimistic speedometer.
60 on the speedo is about 56 from memory.
    And Traction Control "On"???[And A/C]...
Only thing achieved here was some mechanical abuse-and then people wonder why their clutch slips...

That's fast! Benefits of S2+ and STronic. Do you have some kind of launch control like in the RS3?

Regarding some of the other comments, I agree I am not 100% sure the app is any good. The manufacturer claims 'g-tac is the first car performance meter app to use both accelerometer and GPS for the most accurate results', and I know that Dynolicious uses GPS too. GPS should be more accurate than just using the accelerometer. I did also record an 11.3s run which was clearly wrong! A vbox would of course be much better.

Regarding the accuracy of the speedo, according to my GPS the speedo is within 1mph of being correct at 60mph. As I said in the original post I wasn't using the speedo to measure speed, rather the GPS based application on the phone. 60mph is definitely achievable in a stage 1 car in 2nd gear. Before I had it mapped it topped out at about 56 before bouncing off the rev limiter. Now it goes up to about 63/64 before hitting the limiter. Dependant on how the traction control actually works it may or may not make it faster. I would be interested in people's experiences in this case. As for slipping clutches, with occasional abuse mine has already done 10,000 miles and shows no signs of slip. I'm sure doing this kind of launch daily would kill it in a month.

remap doesn't change your gearbox ratio. you can hit in 2nd 60mph but not 62. mine never did. not on stock, not on stage 2 map, not even on stage 2+ map.
also for measuring i would recomend elm obd2 bluetooth device which sends data to mobile phone trough Torque app on Android. it reads data from cars ecu so it would be more accurate than other mobile apps. and it cost 10$. you can also use it to read other data, such as intake temps, boost, maf readings, timing, o2 etc. and you can read DTC's and reset them.

    Had to be said!

In any case,I don't think the traffic light drag contest is very useful.....I've always said that 30-130 or real on-road in gear performance is more important.

Remap doesn't change the gearbox ratio, but does it not move the limiter further up the rev range? I'm sure since Stage 1 Revo mine goes further into the red before hitting the fuel cut off? Higher available revs + same gear ratios would = more speed in 2nd.

The limit isn't usually changed, but you may well find the car is able to get a lot closer to the limiter due to better boost.

Bluetooth device sounds good, I will look it up.

You are right that the gearing does not change. The important factor is where the rev limiter is which is about 500rpm higher on my stage 1 map. This allows a higher speed in any given gear. Imagine if the rev limiter was set to say 3,000rpm, you would not be able to do more than about 35mph in second gear. The reverse is true when the limiter is raised.
