    Hi all,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo3RW5yXt7o

What has this S3 got on to make the turbo noise?

Is this just a combo of Miltek TBE / Air instake or has this got some sort of DV and would this affect performance.

    David

I think my next S3 is defo gona get some treatment so I need to grow some balls lol.

Hard to say really. l havent revved the engine at a full stop and listened. l can say that the exhaust looks like a milltek special tips, same as mine. On mine with the forge cai on the move it sounds great when you gun it through the gears. Hannibal lecture lava beans moment.

Good, well that's what I need then hehehehe.

IS the Dbilias better than the EVOMS or is the forge the best.

New car soon so my plans need to be ready :)

Dave, with respect mate you have been on this site for ages, how have you missed all the threads on mods, specifically CAIs? No one CAI is significantly better than any other, however being that the Dblias is a sealed unit, I don't understand how it can make the same noise as an open filter system, i.e. Forge, ITG, Evoms. I would also thought that the Forge spacer would be a performance decrease (despite any whooshy noises you mind get) given that the engine is a 'closed loop' system? Please someone correct me if I am off the mark with either of these two points.

Given that the circulation system in these cars is sealed and cannot "blow off" any air whatsoever I'd say you've lost your money. Sorry.

See one of the 4,300 threads on this debate.

:iagree:(no offence intended Dave - but it is an old topic covered lots of times elsewhere on here).

My 2p - I've got a Milltek and a Forge CAI and a Forge DV - and mine does not sound like that when the car is revving in first gear and stationary. Maybe it is a non-resonated Milltek (mine is resonated) or maybe there is a bag of nails in the backbox but it sure isn't a nice sound. I can't see how any of that din is attributable to the DV or the intake given that the car isn't moving. It can only be an exhaust sound.

I think these just mimic the sound of a BOV though - the way these engines are designed air cannot be vented to atmosphere without causing overly rich running. This is why surplus air from the DV is jettisoned back into the intake via the recirculation pipe. That is my understanding of it - but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I never have seen the point of "modifying" your engine with something that doesn't actually improve performance....and paying for the privilege.

[All right maybe I'm being pedantic - but you can't fit a BOV to these engines. If someone were to purchase one on the back of misinformation on here they would be very disappointed.]

Nice set of links there Iggu.....I think a lot of people get confused with BOVs and DVs and the way the VAG system works, and those put it all together pretty well.

It's certainly true that with an aftermarket CAI and remapped engine that you will get a lot of induction noise and so on from the markedly increased air flow, and for most people that would be more than enough!

Mine actually makes nearly as much noise as my old Cosworths did, apart from the hissing from a BOV,which frankly,I can manage without.

Dave I wasn't having a pop, I was just genuinely surprised about your question, given the amount of times it pops up in the 8P forum. If that offended you, then I apologise mate as it wasn't my intention.

Just to be clear too. I posted that on my phone (which has no return key function) so the whole post wasn't directed at you.

Back OT: As has been mentioned above, there seems to be confusion on the DV/BOV thing. There have been loads of threads on here recently about this and the common theme is that people seem to think that the DV makes a noise like a BOV (on Scoobies or whatever). To my knowledge and research (and having been around a few modded 3's with aftermarket DV) that just isn't the case.

I am not sure if anyone has a Forge DV fitted without a CAI, but I would bet that in isolation the DV makes no noise - or certainly not what people are describing on here. It is a sealed unit, so where would the noise be coming from? More to the point, why would you want it to as Alex said?

DC's point confirms my thoughts on the benefit of the spacer: if it is a closed loop/recirculated system, why on earth would you want to vent it? :readit: Just because an item is produced does not necessarily mean that it is beneficial; even the Forge website fails to mention any pros or cons - it just describes what the thing is. Not for me thanks.
