I had the bonnet, front wings and bumper of my 2006 A6 resprayed under a goodwill gesture from Audi last year due to excessive stone chipping at about 40k miles...it was REALLY bad though! They paid half, so it cost me around £160 if I remember correctly.
The same is happening to my A4 cab - quite bad stone chipping, and the car is only 18-months old (although I have done quite a lot of miles). I think it is because I do mostly m-way driving to and from work. I need to book the A4 in for a spray sooner or later, but again will speak to Audi about it first.
Incidentally, both my A4 and A6 are black, which seems to show the chips much worse....maybe I'll go for white or silver next time!!
