Hi there ive just got my self a R32 throttle body for my S3 but ive bought a mk5 R32 throttle body not mk4 has any one fitted these? the difference i have seen though is theres no vacume port on the throttle body like there is on my 1.8t one but i was going to put a port in the adaptor so thats not an issue. basicly just want to know if any one knows if its the same size/layout as the mk4 R32 throttle body and where can i get an adapter from?

Thanks for your help in advance Nick

Think their the same mate, just unplug your standard s3 tb and try the plug on the r32, if it matches up your fine.

I'm sure the map will have to be adjusted and also there is not a ridge on the lip of it so it will pop off under pressure. Best bet is to look into Tuffy's thread as he fitted one some time ago and then removed it.

Tuffty that's perfect just what I wanted and I was also thinking of get a spare small port manifold and doing what you've done as I'm running a big port head thanks for everyone's feed back I will get in contact with bill see how much an adaptor is thanks again

    Yes map adjustments is recommended

Mine doesn't have a lip and have run 30 psi, I use a 83mm hose and i think Tuffty used a 85mm. I just used the old hair spray trick and its been fine.

What spec it the engine? Not really worth it on the standard S3 inlet manifold.

Im running a v6 tb on my unmapped s3 and its fine, i had the plenum port matched to the same size as the v6 tb and had a adaptor plate mare to fix it, i also gasket matched the runners at the same time, although ill be ditching the inlet manifold for a largeport one soon.

You guys that have done it, do you reeaaallly think it makes a difference?

I mean, how big is your boost pipe work? Tuffty is yours 63mm?ish.
I guess im thinking if the tb is the same size as the boost pipes then its cool, and the gains are in a larger plenum, rather than tb? Because the tb can be thought of as a continuation in the boost piping.
Am i making sense? Its late.

I guess if the tb is making a difference, thats also like saying increasing the boost pipe size will do the same. Right?

Remember the throttle plate and spindle will reduce the diameter to a degree.

Difficult to tell if it made a difference on mine... going to a larger inlet made more of a difference on my setup and thats still on a std 60mm TB... yes, I have 63mm pipework now (63mm OD) and arguably the throttle body is a 'restriction' now... which brings me onto....

...exactly Sam... the 60mm ID is all well and good but actual surface area is reduced by the plate and spindle...

I am sure that a larger TB will be beneficial for top end power on my car but at the end of the day its still a 'daily' road car and the smaller TB will help drivability...

Increasing the size of anything in the charge air system will reduce overall airspeed and effect low end drivability... this can be improved on in mapping (I run a lot of timing advance low down) but its always a balancing act... bigger isn't always better

I have a larger TB on my large port inlet mani.

A lip was welded on to mine to stop the worry of it popping off.

I have posted something very similar to this already.

TBH i would say that the T/B alone on a standard inlet doesn't give much if any gains.

Add the T/B to a large port head and custom large port inlet then yes there are gains.

We could do with a back to back dyno run to prove this..... Tuffty its time to do a bit of testing done

Do you want your old one back tuffty for testing? I'm not going to use it now till I get a custom large port mani anyway, Let me know and I will ship it back to you.

MKIV & MKV R32 are the same throttle body. Only difference is some have the coolant ports as they throttle bodies sit over a hot exhaust manifold.
An adapter plate to mate a MKV R32 throttle body w/75 x 75mm bolt pattern & 75mm throttle opening onto an OEM 1.8T intake manifold does not exist. The 75mm diameter cuts into the counterbored mounting holes on the adapter plate. Best bet is having a plate machined that tappers down to a 70mm , welding said plate onto your OEM manifold and then opening up the manifold to 70mm.

and yet it has been done as a test on std ported inlet and R32 throttle.. Go figure ;)

pointless mod btw on std plenum imho...

Will the cruise control work if some other TB is mounted? Just saw some saying (few years ago) at Wortex that it wont, but is really so?
