quick help needed, engine number location on the A3/S3?

Hi guys, my car is stuck in registration now because the authorities need to visually inspect the engine number, but cant seem to find it after taking the cover off.


Anyone can tell me where is it? better yet with pictures. Thanks in advance.

They need to see a stamped one on the block. anywhere else?

Someone suggested under the engine just at the joint to the gearbox, but I was told the number I have are all numerals without alphabets (i.e. no BHZ)

Just above the oil filter housing, below the head gasket line.

thanks...will try to search for it this saturday. If all goes well I can register the car next monday and it'd finally be on the road after nearly 10months of hibernation!

so I tried looking for the number today, no dice. Decided to drive to a nearby vw service center since a friend of mine is working there. He showed me a 2.0T block and where the engine number is supposed to be. Not sure if any of you guys will find this useful.

seems pretty straightforward right? sadly we dont live in wonderland. Hoses, pipes, fuel rails and manifolds all come in the way
