I just got a quote to get my bumpers colour coded for the avant. The quote was £400 + vat, I thought this was a bit dear. Anyone else had this done? He also wanted to remove the bumpers and side trims!!! is that the way its done or can it be sprayed with everything on the car?

It can be done with the bumpers still on the car, but it's a lot of hassle as everything will need to be covered up and masked off. The price seems slightly expensive if not unreasonably high.

To save money remove the bumpers yourself, that way you only pay for the spraying and you know they wont be harsh on your car, ie yanking bits if they dont come off.

£400 + vat is too much IMO.

Before I added my kit, My bumpers were left on but I took my sides off as they are less hassle than the bumpers to remove. Cant see point taking bumpers off. Spend Half hour masking it up is easier than taking everything off.

As said few times previous threads, My cousin can colour code yours for £150 - £200 if the person is situated near to leicester and dont mind travelling. but I see that you are a long way away so Id be searching for some cheaper quotes.

    I wouldnt pay that.

That is a very good price.
I paid £300 to get both bumpers(top and bottom halfs),both side skirts, bottoms of the doors and the spoiler painted.
    £400 + vat is expensive.

i paid £200 on top of the £675ish my work paid out for a new bumper, and front end respray, but i got the door flares, sill extentions, the rear bumper, and a piller all the way down too the rear arches, only leaving the doors,

removed everything myself though to get round all the corners, quite easy, only took a couple of hours removing everything, took a hell lot longer putting everything back on,

the labour is the most costly thing.

Did you remove any of the items or leave them all on the car?

How hard is it to remove all the bits - bumpers, skirts etc. I have removed the rear bumper before to fit a towbar, but haven't done the front or skirts..

    Yes i removed the bumpers.

Front bumper is quite easy, remove both headlights, there are 3 nuts to undo down each side and you need to undo the two bolts at the front holding the bumper to the crash bar. Also all the little screws holding the plastic bits on.
Side skirts are easy, remove the top cover and undo all the screws on the skirts, top and bottom.

thanks, did you split the bumpers in two when removed? i.e. took the black bit off the painted bit? don't suppose you have a write up on removing the skirts..

Yes they was painted seperate on mine.
No write up on the skirts but it only takes 5 mins to get them off.
Lift the top cover with a screwdriver and pull it off. Then just undo all the torx screws under it and under the side of the car, there are quite a few but thats it.

your better of removing everything and pulling it apart, i.e: seperating the bumper into 2 halfs, you'll get a better finish rather than it looking all over sprayed, might take a bit longer but worth the extra time!!!!

nah Shove all that, Just get them to mask it out, Spray the bumpers on but sideskirts off. When colourcoding mine before kit, We just popped the edges of the bumpers out by loosening a few bolts. Job done.

Has anyone in the Bexleyheath area of North Kent/South East London had this done? If so, where did you go, and how much did you pay?

I've just had a quote from my local bodyshop to colour code my A4 Avant - around £400 to remove the front & rear bumpers and side skirts, and another £450 to prepare and spray.

    Grand total of around £850!

Do I win a prize for finding the most expensive bodyshop in the UK?

I think so, mines booked in the week after next, they are leaving the bumpers on but I have to remove the skirts, although their re-fitting them. £250 nice.. Chrome Matt mirros have been bought along with s-line badges, will wait until I get it painted to put them on...

I know the feeling mate, both my cars tax and MOT finished this month. The road tax for the Audi was an eye watering £112.75 for 6 months, and the MOT was £50 + (£40 brake pads and fitting, £22 wiper blades). Insurance was due for renewal on the Golf too. My savings have taken a hammering!

Just seen my car in the paintshop yard, all the side parts have been removed but the bumpers are still on. I know this guy specialises in paint repair/resprays so may be planing to mask of the bumpers rather than take them off. he has also filled and is spraying a large stone chip (approx 1cm by 4cm) on the rear wheel arch that happend 1 day after i got the car!
