Query re Audi fitted tow-bar

    Hi Forum,

I've had an Audi garage fit an Audi detachable tow-bar (to my A3 Sportback 2.0 TDi (8P3)), and the part numbers on the fitting manuals they gave to me afterwards are:
    8P4 092 155 Mounting instructions
    8P0 055 204 H Electrical wiring guide
...but the manuals don't seem to indicate whether the detachable ball-head is made from steel or aluminum.

I'm looking to get the Audi compact bike carrier, which is listed in the A3 accessories guide as:
    part num: 8R2071105
...but it says it's for a steel tow-bar and not aluminum.

    So, my questions are:
    1) Can anyone tell from the part numbers above whether the tow-bar ball-head that I have is steel or aluminum?
    2) Does anyone have the Audi compact bike rack ? If so, is it any good ?

    Thanks peeps.

If I understand you right, you should be able to take a magnet and apply it to the ball-head. That will tell you if the material is steel or aluminium.

Nice example of lateral thinking - thank you.

It's steel. Part number of the supplied detachable ball-head unit is: 8P0800495

All audi towbars ball head parts are steel.

    Thank you.

...and still looking for a little bit more help - please...

Q1) What is the maximum tow-bar carrying load for an A3 Sportback 2.0 TDi (8P3) with detachable tow-bar ball-head unit part 8P0800495 ?

Q2) The A3 accessories guide lists part 8R2071105 to carry two bikes max weight 50 kg. Yet, the A1 accessories guide also lists part 4G1071105 to carry two bikes max weight 60 kg. My question is, can I use this 60kg bike carrier (part 4G1071105) with the tow-bar kit on an A3 Sportback 2.0 TDi that uses a detachable ball-head unit part 8P0800495 ?

Q3) What is the weight of the 50kg two bike carrier part 8R2071105 ?

Q4) What is the weight of the 60kg two bike carrier part 4G1071105 ?

I'm sure answers to these questions will prove very useful for others too.
    Many thanks in advance.
