    Hi fourm
As you know I have a 2009 (58) a3 sline 55k with below add ons
i now want the same car in a Quattro my budget is my car plus 3k It must have drl's that pretty much my specifics
do you guys think this is doable?

I am in talks with a sourcing company at the minute about it but needs some advice please
did they make an 8p3 in a 140 Quattro or just 170 ?

I have Donne some resech on the net an you tube but I can't really get a good explanation of the haldex system so can someone explain to me what the front a d rear power spilt is and how it works I.e is if fwd untill you get in trouble or is it a awd 50/50 split at all times ?
    Cheers Nally

Someone will be getting there hands on your nice shiny a3 then. As far as I understand the haldex, it's predominantly front wheel drive and the rear wheels kick in under hard launch or when it detects wheel spin up to a maximum of 50/50 I think. I could be wrong though, I quite often am. Not sure about the 140/170 thing.

Mainly the Quattro was only put on the 170bhp diesels on 8P3 cars but I think there was some 140bhp models but these were on the 8P2.

Quattro is good, but depends why you want it or what you want from it. I didn't require it, but I bought my car from my parents and it so it just happened to have it. It's handy for getting away from junctions quickly especially in the rain. My parents new car doesn't have it and unless you drive like a prat all the time then it's not missed.

You do get a harder ride with the Quattro system and also the boot a quite significantly reduces in size due to the drive train.

You should be able to get a good 170bhp Quattro for the price of a 140bhp 58 plate plus £3k though... They are quire rare though.

This is an example Vehicle View - Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI (170PS) quattro Black Edition - Swindon

Thats her alright! Get some rotors and rs3 grill it will look the bussines
mainly it's for safety I drive quite consertitly.
In the rain and winter conditions I drive. To work on a roads every day. Plus out drive is up hill so my car always slides back when getting up in the winter so that's one of the biggies.
    Plus it's a bit of Audi heritage : )

Ooh! Don't mention haldex and heritage, someone will be along to tell you it's sacrilege and haldex isn't proper quattro. I'd love a go at wet sanding, but don't have the minerals to try it on the a3. Some of the results look awesome. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the write up on dw.

I think the split on A3/S3 with a haldex (rather than the AWD quattro on bigger cars) sends upto 60% to the rear when the fronts slip.

Why? you won't even feel the difference... and if it goes wrong, big bill! I say test drive it first if you haven't already. Save the rest for mods, some sideskirts, brushed aluminium wing mirrors, rs3 grille...

You do feel the difference when it's required. And the power shifts to the rear wheels even if the fronts don't start slipping. It's designed to move the power where required, when it's required which it does well from the experience with mine.

Haldex shouldn't go wrong, and only does where people don't service it.

Why is it assumed that everyone on here wants to mod their cars to look like something it isn't?!

Having owned both fwd and Quattro a3's trust me you do feel the difference holds so much better in the corners and if your planning any performance mods then a Quattro will handle the power better than a fwd, personally I wouldn't go back to fwd after having Quattro

Trust me, you will. Otherwise you're ruling out a lot of nice cars. How fast are you going around corners? Performance on a diesel! don't make me laugh mate :haha: Personally I don't think it's worth 3k + all the hassle of selling up a perfectly good car. But hey that's just me :icon_thumright:

Had a MK5 Golf GTi DSG. Current 2.0TFSI Sportbaack Quattro S- Tronic. is not quite as pokey, but handles fab in wet, junctions, roundabouts etc. No need to buy snow tyres anymore.

am not ruling out any other car were talking about a3's here mate not any other car so I don't know what your going on about there!:haha:
And if you read my post properly then I think you'll find it says "if your planning any performance mods then a Quattro will handle the power better" obviously you haven't owned a Quattro before if you couldn't feel the difference

Quattro makes a fantastic difference however you do need to learn how to drive it correctly in order to get it to fuction, for example when you enter a corner fast you need to stay on the power to enable the transfer of touque to reach the rear of the car for it to make a difference if you were to lift off you would achieve lift of oversteer and look like a prat.

At least you wont be like the people on here commenting when only own a fwd and have no experience of the system or its capabilities, also as long as you are steady you will have a much more capable car in adverse conditions providing you get to know how to use it and know its limitations.

I own an S3 and a 170 tdi quattro (which is remapped poducing more torque than the S3) and still a fantastically set up car even with the extra poke.

Do it, Get it you wont regret it!

Mines a Quattro and it makes a huge difference ask any of the stage 1 lads on here they can't keep the power down off the lights 250bhp fwd means huge wheel spin.. Once youve gone Quattro you won't go back.. Not unless you decide up opt for something rwd which means you wont be buying Audi 😝

Been driving my dads 2012 3 series it a lovely drive a it's bloody quick but it's a bit tail happy the only thing I prefer it that if your trying to pull out of somewhere the bm lurches farward and a little wheel spin still takes you farward but my audi would just jump a shudder in that scenario I like the bm. And I like the sport button that about it I would have my a3 and day.

Just to clarify, I not arguing against it. I just saying is it really worth all the trouble. Quattro on a diesel car is not a must, modded or not. An audi S3 on the other hand sure. I mean the Focus RS does just fine without it. I have owned Audi A5 quattro for like 2 years. My english may not be up to par with yours, but saying "personally I wouldn't go back to fwd after having Quattro" to me means I will never buy a fwd car ever again, audi or otherwise

The 170 diesel has the same torque as an S3 and its torque that breaks traction over power.

There have been a few Haldex failures recorded on here but still wouldn't say it was trouble some.

I thought you ran a 140 A3 TDi so you must miss the Quattro?

That's some beading porn there. And some serious BMW orange peel! It'd be good to see you wet sand all that out and polish up to a nice mirror finish. If you you're going to map the diesel I'd go for quattro, but like you say there's no rush so make sure you get exactly what you want.

I like I said before mate having owned both in my opinion I wouldn't go back to fwd a3, I didn't say I wouldn't buy any fwd car again where talking about a3's not any other car and IMHO Quattro is a better all rounder

    Pictures or you're lying :moa:

I certainly do, but not enough to sell up and drop 3k.

Lol you didn't say "fwd A3" now did you. Yep no doubt, it is better, but I personally I don't value quattro that much. I feel like a bmw owner on a audi site now lol.
