On a 1997 quattro avant with factory fitted sports suspension are the shocks red front and rear also whats the best aftermarket lowering springs to go with these shocks

Yes, shocks are red on 1BE sport suspension. Eibach PRO is the best aftermarket kit you can fit on them, they are progressive springs and feel just like stock on normal drive but get stiffer as you throw them in the bends ! Best mod for your money...

Think hes referring to the older blue shocks not springs !!

just had a look and I've go red shocks on the front and blue on the rear so I take it at some point the front or rear has been changed then but I don't know what ones as the front sits abit high

Yeh our '96 had blue dampers all round.
