I saw a thread about Q5customerservice engines cutting out. We have same problem. Garage trying to charge a fortune to investigate what seems to be a common problem. Then trying to say it’s wear and tear. Was one week out of warranty. Was in garage for mot a week before when in warranty and told of burning smell and knocking sound which we both assumed was brakes as this had been advisory. It was Mobi g in slow moving traffic and wouldn’t start. The dashboard said brake fault when tried to restart it which it wouldn’t do. So had to get pick up truck to garage. Really fed up with Audi and attitude. Have heard it’s related to engine emission repair. However it is a really common fault. No more audi for us I suspect for our business! Would have expected better. 1500 to fix first fault that they thought it was. Another 2400 to remove gear box to check fault and can’t say if that is the problem. When I asked if this was essential I was told in a cheeky manner that it was up to me as it was my money and they could t make me do it if I didn’t want. Hey yes does that mean I just leave car in garage!! Head office left me a message to say it was wear and tear and wouldn’t have been covered by warranty anyway. Des that mean their car just wears out???? You can tell I am well annoyed!

Hi, @Shirley

Welcome to Audisport.net. I've moved your thread from the General Chat section of the forum to a more model-specific area, where you've more chance of it being read by someone who can help you. What would also help is if you could provide some more information about the car; in particular, how old it is and which engine it has.

I've also edited your post slightly to make it compliant with our language rules. Hope you get the car sorted, without too much expense. :)

I would suggest you called Audi UK if you're not getting anywhere with the local garage. I'm not aware of any Audi's cutting out due to wear and tear on a relatively new car.
I take it you paid 1500 for something that didn't fix the problem? Then they're advising 2400 to remove the gearbox to fix something else? I'd be interested to know what it could be....
Maybe try a local specialist?

Thanks for moving the thread etc. Appreciate that. I’ve contacted head office and they say it’s wear and tear. It’s a Q5 litre s-line. 64 plate. I’ve asked them to stop the work. Looking on the internet, burning and knocking is related to resetting the software for engine emissions. I’ve asked them to stop work in the car and to send me a video, breakdown of the work they did on the MOT. It seems some garages are resetting without getting permission. Symptoms completely tie in. It’s done 50k. Too much coincidence that it was straight out of mot and did one journey and in second breaks down. Earlier fault could have been the brakes. Hrd to know why is connected to what.

Since found a legal group dealing with these issues. It seems my car has been updated but didn’t tell me when. If Audi know it’s an issue, why are they charging owners vast sums to identify issues when Audi already know what the problem could be?

I presume that your car is in an Audi Dealer?

If so, take it up with Audi UK via social media such as Twitter or FB. Do it professionally, explain the issue and ask why you are being charged for investigative work when its a well know issue.

I would hold off mentioning the dealer name immediately and allow them to contact you via PM and go from there.

If it is a well known issue and you are being charged then they will want to know. Also, if its only a week out of warranty then they will probably help if you keep your cool...

Thank you. Will give it a try. Much appreciated. Keeping cool is my challenge!
Good luck. And to reiterate what @Dan_G says about keeping cool. It's possible to be very assertive and completely civil at the same time, and it's so much more effective than going into a rant. :)

Agreed keep it calm. But definitely start adding comments to Facebook. They will have no choice but to get involved then.
