I don't think it would be anywhere near £100, not unless the microwave cost £400 or something, unlikely as most microwaves are around £60 now.

It cost about £300. Seemed good value at the time.

I have Infocus X1 DLP proj for last 12 months
give it 11 out of 10 for pik quality, value and impact . Would recommend - only cost about £800 if you shop around
Best money I spent last year !
1.8 metre screen over the firplace looks great - even watching eastenders.
I doubt if I would feel so satisfied if I had spent 3-6K on a 42" plasma

You will have to live with the financial kick in the balls of a plasma / LCD and also watch it, so make sure you try them out well enough beforehand...

The EBU has set the standard for HDTV in Europe now, it's 720p/50fps. The beeb is broadcasting HD signals via Eurobird from the IBC currently going on in Amsterdam.
Pace have also launched an HD decoder which you can pick up Euro1080 on, which is already broadcasting on the continent in 1080i. Sky will be launching HD services in 2006, along with the HD Sky+ box.

I'm not saying take it on everything, just certain items. If i add up all the items i wish i had taken the cover on, i would not be out of pocket, becuase repairs for broken down goods or replacements for goods that can't be repaired would have cost more then the warranties put together. For example, i brought my laptop 3 years ago, i didn't take the coverplan. I had to buy a new laptop (£1000) the other week, cos old one was fuc*ked. The mousepad, speakers, volume control didnt work, the dvd rom drive was completly broken off etc. The repairs would have cost loads, so i just brought a new one. If i had paid £200 for coverplan, i wouldn't have had to shell out £1000 recently, becuase the coverplan would have covered it. So thats a £1000 saved straight away.

I'm looking at a projector to play Xbox live on (life size ToCa, R6 and GRIT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ), can someone explain the rainbow effect and how it :may: cause me a problem?

I have to say I am really happy with my plasma. Watching a DVD is a lot clearer then watching sky digital, but the picture can only be as good as the source.
Watching a DVD is very clear in my opinion, I would have my plasma (Panasoic TH42PWD6BX) over a projector any day. I don't think I could watch a projector all the time as a standard screen.

The rainbow effect is due to the fact that DLP projectors use a spinning wheel to show the colours, red, green and blue.
The wheel spins and it shows a red image on the first revolution, a green image on the second and a blue on the third, so you are actually seeing three different images but so quickly your brain puts them together as one.
Some people can see what they call a rainbow on the edge of objects within the image, which can become very annoying.
I had a BenQ 8700+ which is an HS2+ projector and I could still see the rainbow effect, not badly but if there was a dark background and a light object on it then it was noticeable. Worse than that though it gave me a terrible headache and made me feel slightly travel sick.
If you have a crt computer monitor set the refresh to 50hz and see if you see and flicker, this is a good way to tell if you may be affected, I really would not reccommend going the DLP route without having a demo for a good 30 mins or so first.

As mentioned above, plasmas are crap for live sports, like football. Its terrible, especially when you watch the ball moving through the air. LCD isn't so bad, but its still good. The best is a DLP TV, which are almost half the thickness of rear projection tv's. The contrast is the best, as is the picture quality.

I have the THX "configurator" and did set up the RGB input with it as it is the one I use for my DVD player (made a real difference)
I tried these settings to watch normal TV (S-video thru the amp) but did not find it great at the time so I messed around with the settings but never got it perfectly right
I'll try your settings and see how it goes.

Funny you say that, we had friends round for dinner and I only got to see the last 20 minutes or so and I thought the game was being played at quite a pace.

coverplans are crap in my opinion! My lecturer bought a laptop for £1000 from currys and paid £250 for a coverplan. I pointed out to him I paid £590 for mine from an online shopping site and paid £10 a year insurance which covers everything anywhere.
I remember going to phones4u to get a mobile (what else!) and they asked if i wanted insurance i said no, that was it.
Went back to them a year later for a new phone. they asked if i wanted insurance i said no. he selected no on his screen, pressed next and WOW!!! A huge flashing red screen came up blatantly in my view with total loss liability £600+ flashing up. He asked me whether i still wanted to take out cover ... i said no. So the manager came over, sat on the desk and was my best friend telling me how this happened to his friend and he had to pay hundreds in call charges. i said NO! so he clicked on the screen no, then another screen came up. There's just no end to these cover plans.
i left my mobile on a bench in abersoch this year. no probs. rung up o2, sent new card out for free. went on ebay and bought a 6600 for £100. bearing in mind the premium for mobile warranty is summit like £80 a year and then £30 excess, i saved money!!!
i'd never buy a cover plan! if it's a cheap item and ir breaks then u've only lost £30 and if it's well expensive, then stick it on the insurance!
Also, since when did curry's ever say come and buy here, we're cheap but don't know much about what we're selling! Curry's should know their stuff, you pay for the store costs (including staff) when you buy it in the shop. I think it's only if you're buying on the internet site that you shouldn't expect helpful advice.
