    Long time no speak :)

Had a few issues that were really starting to piss me off with my car, mainly the brake buld warning light chirping at me randomly. I was forever changing the bulbs, checking the bulb holders etc and they'd be fine for a couple of hours before it started to beep at me again..very annoying.

Anyway, whilst enjoying a spirited drive up to Snowdon (climbed it on Tuesday) my mate following told me I have NO brake lights at all. This pissed me off a bit and thought it cant be all 3 bulbs out at once. Anyway, after getting back the following day and a bit of a google it was the switch on the pedal. Went to Euro and they listed 3 for my car...all different :(. Got all 3 and changed it this morning. I'd read some horror stories about doing it as the switches can break during the install. To be honest though, once I'd got the lower dash off it was a 30 second job...so happy days. Brake lights all sorted at long last all for the cost of about 6 quid.

Popped back up to Euro to return the other switches and they were good as gold. Then I realised I needed to change my coolant header tank as the sensor was ranted and kept telling me I had no coolant. I know the cooling system is in top order as I did the thermostat and sensor for the temp gauge not so long ago so the only other weak link was the sensor in the header tank....13 quid ish.

Euro had it on the shelf and I even got a fiver back after the credit for the switches that were returned :D

Anyway, header tank is easy to change, didn't drain the system just managed to empty the old header tank and put the coolant back in once the new one was in (it was still crystal clear and bright pink so was happy to re use it). 20 minutes later...job done. Car was run for half an hour and it was bob on... no leaks or airlocks.

Job done, brakes next, got everything ready to go just got to find the time. I've also got 2 new ball joints for the front to fit which should fix the clunk I've got (had an advisory on the MOT) so once that's done the cars back in good order again :D

Looking forward to having brakes that work and enjoying a 'beep free' and 'clunk free' drive again :)

Yeah long time Tom. Good work on the fixes. I did my brake light switch last week and also did the clutch switch at the same time as I was down there. Got both genuine Audi switches for £20

I was expecting it to be a right pig after what I'd read on the web (mainly from luddite ham-fisted Mk4 owners it would seem!) but it was dead easy

Awesome news man. Ever since the master cylinder on my track car died and the pedal sank to the floor, I've had the same brake bulb failure light

I might make inters, I need to get my shift pattern printed off at work :)

Prawn, I put up with it for ages...now when I get into my car I kind of miss the coolant beep when it first starts and then the bulb bleep when I first press the brake pedal!.

Nice to have it sorted though at long last.

That would have driven me mental. It's bad enough when my washer fluid is empty!

I was driving home the other day and I had the fuel light, washer fluid light, brake light and coolant warning all flashing away like mad.

    That was the last straw!

I get that all the time now, as it is in fact my meth warning level light.

    Lol.

Knackered front near side brake caliper done today and nice new fresh brake fluid put into the system.

Now got brakes again...wahoooooooo!!!. Shocking how bad they'd got to be fair.

Gave it a bit of a wash too :)

Well you've come back with a bang Tom! I did a similar thing, went AWOL from this site and lost interest in my car. Something clicked and I got into it again and have now been sorting out all the issues I have. happy days

Yeah, the sudden rush of work and enthusiasm tends to happen just before the MOT is due!

Another issue sorted today...leaky washer hose behind the sub in the boot.

Bloody hell it was rank, all the sound deadening material had gone green and furry, as had the loom tape so that was all ripped out and replaced.

Hopefully any bits I've missed will now dry out over time.

It was well and truly minging, bleurgh!

    There's no rush Jo :)

Just got to paint them satin black and they're good to go :)

I'm still getting used to having brakes that work so dont want to put them on too soon ;)
