You two are amazing at finding track tyres. You just need to get yourself a pit team now ;)

I've got an alloy race jack and an impact gun, so we definitely look pro when we turn up at trackdays:

SuperK, Please edit your post! When Dad see's that he'll be planing a trip to SuperK world within minutes! we've got enough :p

Tori: Hacking the AudiSport just to laugh at the idea of me knowing what to do with a set of tyres! I can make you cups of tea though!

I wasn't thinking of you changing tyres. My thoughts were more along the lines of a couple of "saucepan lids"

i think you should do it prawn.
prove it either is or isnt beneficial at these power levels.
its bound to change something, be it torque and power delivery somewhere in the rev range.

    DO IT

if I buy one and it doesn't work Westy has to promise to buy it off me so he can test it too :p

In all seriousness though, when the engine is built and run in, I might consider trying one of those before it goes for mapping again.

Rods, bolts, shells, and a head gasket set all bought :) I managed to tag onto a group buy with the Seat lads and got a good deal.

Just need to fire a few PM's off with regards to getting my head rebuilt when the time comes, although with current work commitments it's not looking like I'll attack this until much later in the year :(

I've got an APY bottom end to use, but after reading a post from Bill this morning I've decided I don't want to use the 9:1 CR pistons, I'd much rather stick with my 9.5:1 AGU pistons, as every successful hybrid so far has been large port and high compression.

That leaves me with two choices: Either source some more AGU pistons now so I can build the block up ready to drop in, or accept a bit more down time for the car when I do the change, and strip mine down and re-use the pistons.

I wonder what state the pistons will be in after 213k?

i think source some agu pistons if the apy block you have is good low miles.
alternatively just get another agu engine, they can be had relatively cheap.

you never no, you might open yours up and be very suprised by its condition.

did you get that kit with rods shells bolts etc from ie?

AGU engines seem to go for a fortune these days! Oddly more than AUQ or AUM engines, I guess everyone wants the large port heads and there's the myth that they are miles stronger due to 20mm pins.

If anyone has a set of AGU (or I think ibiza) pistons knocking around then please let me know! it'd be nice to get a whole engine, then I could have a head built on the side as well, and literally drop the whole lot in all complete, but I don't want to keep laying out money and buying parts I'll be removing from the car anyway!

545bhp on 9.4:1 CR on mine from 25psi

suitably mapped keeps it "spritely" and not 'as' reliant on boost build

I'm currently over here and will be heading back to the UK in a month. I've bought Prawns daily off him so I'll be seeing him when I get back.

oooooooooooh, this sounds promising! out sourcing for parts at it's very best!

Wonder what it'd cost to post them inland to Frenchman? How much would you want for the pistons Neru?

Very rare to see Frenchman posting! I feel honoured :)

shouldn't be too expensive their not to heavy

Just out of curiousity how come you didnt upgrade your pistons, im doing a similar build and went for the mahle 82.5mm pistons

Keep me up to date with how you're getting on dude. What sort of mileage are they on? and how much do you think you'll be wanting for them?

I'm not feeling the need for new pistons, because from everything that's been done in the UK they're not really needed! Welly and Tufty both run standard pistons at around 400bhp :)

Neru: I'm going to have to pass on the pistons mate, something else has come up. Thanks very much for the offer though!

I've now got myself a complete AGU engine for my new build, so things can start to move on!

Picking the engine up Sunday, and hopefully stripping it all down on Monday :)

Rods should arrive soon, and I'm looking into getting some head work done in the near future :)

I'm also strangely obsessed with building my own exhaust at the moment, I don't know why. I've been inspired by Bills 3'' exhaust he made for the yellow leon race car, and really fancy having a go at myself. I know it'd never be as good as something Bill could make, but I love the idea of the challenge, building something totally from scratch

Well that was a fun night!

Went along to the COV meet in London. Took Mr Angell who I think was most inspired to return to the VAG scene

Got there and found my number plate had some how fallen off! So much for the cheap ebay number plate doler :(

I borrowed some card and scissors from the Worlds most legendary postman (Bobby - Thanks!), and a marker pen from someone else, and got busy making up something that SHOULD keep PC plod half way happy should he have felt the need to pull me over on the way home:

Quick pic from the meet by Bobby:

Absolutely top night, got a spin in Dons gt28 A3 TQ, and MY GOD, the launch is simply brutal. absolutely unreal launch like I've never known before. No wonder it runs 12s quarters! Once it's moving the pull is pretty relentless too. VERY nice car indeed.

Took Don and Aaron out in mine too, I think they liked it :)

Thanks Don :) you won't regret it mate!

Its so important to have the complete package, rather than just focus on one thing like power, itll make it so much more enjoyable to use :)

Your car is bloody impressive Don, one of the most complete I've seen for sure, and it shows by how well it goes. That launch!!!!!

    Yup, bang on Jason.

Mintex 1177 Karl, although I'm not sure if they still make them any more, they might have been replaced by something like the mintex FR4.

I found that the DS3000's were amazing, but seemed to leave a deposit on the discs which other pads didn't get on with. I didn't have the budget for more DS3000's at the time, so tried the Mintex and found them just as good, without the deposit build up.

It's a proper extreme race pad though, noisey as hell, but absolutely face distorting power right from the first press, Don and Dan were following me on Saturday night whilst braking hard into a roundabout with warm tyres, and Dan reckoned the car almost did a stoppie!

i think theyre now called the rc5.
its just my mate is looking for some for his wilwood 4 pots.
dunno what pads are in them at the minute but they are crazy good!
so i think he wants to compare the ds3000 to the mintex race pads that are available (rc5 i think).
the ferrodo ones are £162 for his calipers. would be good if the mintex are cheaper and youre saying they are just as good.
what did you pay compared to ferrodos?

If you can find the part number then Camskill seem to still list them. They`re one of the cheapest too. I`ll be buying my M1155`s from there when i have some cash.

For example of the price differences DS2500`s are around 130 for mine and the M1155`s are 98 from Camskill.

the mintex were a good bit less than the DS3000's, and seem to be just as good, but I think the new equivalent is about the same price, so I'm not sure what to buy next. I've got a set of part used Carbotech XP8's to try next, if I can find where I've hidden them!

In others news, I picked up my new AGU engine on Sunday from George Seamons, but of a mission to Norwich and back, but well worth it:

But the FAR more interesting news, is that I finally got to modify the Polo a bit :p

It needed 4 new tyres, and Tori said that if I could find some nice alloys with decent tyres on for less than the price of 4 good tyres on the standard wheels, we could go for it.

Polo before, looking a bit sad:

A quick quote from Pro-Tyre set my budget, and I got hunting on ebay. After about 20 minutes searching for everything VW / polo / golf related, I wasn't having much luck, and thought I'd change a search for '14'' alloy wheels' and sort by distance.

As luck would have it, these beauties popped up, just 15 miles from home at a reasonable price, shod with goodyear Eagle NCT's

Annoyingly, google failled me, and a quick check on centre bore turned out to be wrong, so when I got them home, the centres were too small. AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

I decided to try something I wouldn't recommend to anyone else, and re-bore the centres myself.

Much time and care, a carbide tipped burr, and constant checking with calipers, and one dead drill, and the job was done, time for a test fit:

Tori didn't like the BBS centre caps, as they're a bit too obvious being big nut style caps, so I managed to get the standard VW centre caps to fit, which makes it look much more OEM+. She loves it, and so do I!

The Polo is Tori's car, nicknamed Tabby due to the number plate. It's great fun, and unstoppable in the snow too!

Should probably explain, those BBS wheels are infact from a mk1 Mazda MX5, hence the fitment issues. Dead chuffed we got them though, they really suit the car.

Just needs some lowering springs now, it's had an advisory on corroded springs for 2 years at the MOT now, so this year will be the year it gets dropped, even Tori herself said it'd look better lowered :)

Work will be fine with it Westy :p
