what colour spray you using? when i did my avus wheels, i couldnt find a colour that matched my centre caps so had to spray them too.

im fair sure the bolt is m12 x 1.5 if its the same as the ones on my old golf. which im sure it is. Just take another one out to gauge it.

Well, had a fairly productive day really. As for the colour, I fancied trying something a bit mad. It's a track car afterall, and the TT's in 17'' never looked quite big enough, so I thought I'd try and make them stand out a bit more.

A few hours on from the last pics, I got the wheels in primer. Went with a yellow high build primer, partly to hide any marks I missed, and partly as it gave a great base for the orange to go onto.

then, after 3 coats of primer, I gave them 3 coats of orange base coat, followed by 3 coats of laquer!

I was going to mask up the tyres properly, but had a limited amount of tape, and they're not going to be used on the road at all. they're literally just there to hold it up at the moment!

I also whipped the mirror caps off, as they were knackered anyway, and having some spare orange paint left, I attacked them as well!

Bled the brakes through, with minimal success (seems the master cylinder has died now) and stuck the wheels back on.

Not set the height of the coilovers yet at all, just made a guess at each end, and this is where it's ended up.

Needless to say though, it's bright!

I'll be honest, it doesn't look amazing at the moment, as the car's a state, but once it's all setup, and the car is cleaned, I think it should look awesome!

Federal RS-R's are paid for already, just waiting for them to arrive from Demon Tweeks.

    Now there's a good idea!

I know it doesn't look great at the moment, but with a few more details, and a decent wash, I think it should look pretty mean. Still got my LCR splitter to go on, the I need to raise the back and lower the front, then get the new tyres fitted when they arrive :)

I saw a Pug 306 years ago at Castle Coomb race track and it had a sticker for every track it had been on. The car was blue with white stickers running down the side skirts and it looks really good. Might be an idea for you.

yea they do tend to shear off pretty easily :(

I just fitted a new dog bone mount, with INA track density mounts at the subframe end, and a super pro solid poly mount at the gearbox end.

transmission noise is now VERY apparent!

    Change of plan :)

    Awesme GTI = appropriate name!

Just got off the phone with Al at awesome, I called up to order a 28mm rear bar, explained the project to him, and he suggested he may have something I'd be interested in:

Turns out, they had just one of the orignal neuspeed 32mm 'race' bars left that are no longer available :)
Stiffer than a 28mm bar, still adjustable, and half the weight!

    Happy with that :)

Fitting the box with quaife diff this weekend too

Pretty soggy day yesterday, so I ended up doing a few errands, and getting things ready for the box swap instead. Moved the car into position, then took a few snaps before running from the rain!

So, after a failled day yesterday, we've had a fairly decent day today!

With good intentions we started stripping the PSF reservoir and header tank out, in order to helicoil the stripped thread in my engine mount. We got to the point where we were ready to drill out the old thread, only to find my drill wont take a 12.4mm drill bit! We gave up, and headed over to a mates to borrow a drill.

Started the day off badly too, I couldn't find the bit for the driveshaft bolts, so we had to head into town to a mates garage to borrow the tool.

With that done, we soon helicoiled the dead engine mount, so started ripping out the box.

I'm perhaps not the fastest worker, so 3 hours later, it was out!

Big hole where it once was! SOOOO oilly down there. I think the turbo feed is leaking under pressure :(

Knocked up my new shift linkage setup on the floor. Golf AUM shift lever and cables, with a TT short shift module and relay lever on the box end. The new box is an o2J from an ibiza cupra, going onto an AGU engine in the A3.

We found that the pin that allows the relay lever to pivot was a different diameter from the TT part to the ibiza o2J box. Bugger.

Thought I'd try my luck with an offcut from a G12 bottle, and amazingly, it's given me the most perfect tolerance fitted plastic bearing!

Stripped the exhaust off, and then had to remove the whole heat shield along the tunnel to gain access to the shifter assembly from underneath. What are your thoughts on refitting the heat shields guys? are they really needed?

No pics at this stage, but we whipped it all out, trimmed the tunnel down of various fixings, then set about mounting the new AUM shifter inside the car to get it a bit higher:

Pretty happy with how things have turned out so far.

Also recieved my neuspeed 32mm ARB yesterday, it's HUGE, but being hollow section, not too heavy.

FWD arb sizes are very different to the s3 independent rear setup matey.

It's said that the bigger the better on the back.

I run a 25mm rear and 22mm front on my daily, and this has an eibach 22mm TT bar on the front, with the 32mm race bar on the back.

Being hollow section though, it's only as stiff as a 28mm solid bar, but hf the weight

I see what your saying buddy. At least its hollow so not as heavy.

Generally a bigger ARB on the rear than the front aids for more oversteer and not much flex at that back giving very little roll. When ever I used to setup our race car or my go kart a really stiff rear end made for horrid oversteer because, if one wheel hit a bump or a kerb it would transmit the force to the other wheel losing grip and giving causing the car oversteer badly.

May not be as bad on a A3 setup and your bad is adjustable I see.

It will indeed induce more oversteer, that's the plan, seeing as all 8L's are understeering barges anyway, it needs all the help it can get!

Unlike the S3, the rear sus is very crude on the fwd a3, with an incredibly simple triangular beam at the back. Not hugely different to a mk2 golf!

Front bar is adjustable too, so I'll start off on full soft then see how it goes. Got 6 sessions booked at combe on April 9th, so that's test day!

Aw i see. You could always setup your coilover properly. Setup your static weight distrubution and your wedge which should give you a neutral balance when cornering left or right.

sounds good with your track sessions booked. Any chance of getting some lap times when your there prawn.

Yea sure man. Once it's all done it will be corner weighted and everything to get it spot on. Will be weighing it next week at work for intrest also.

Will definitely run a stopwatch at combe, more for comparison than anything. I've been round there in the mini in 1:26, but I've got no idea if that's considered quick or not!

So, anything under 1:26 will be a bonus to me!

Forget combe, come out to the ring with us in May or September!

8:58 BTG is my time to beat out there. Done in september in the daily, with 210bhp from a st1 map and Toyo T1R's.

T1R's didn't do too badly out there really. Quite a lot of squeal, and they tend to go off for the last 30% of the track. But not too bad for a road tyre

Got a bit of a mission ahead tonight. In light of demon tweeks messing me about with tyres, I've got to drive from work in Guildford, to Bury St Edmunds to collect my new wheels, then back to home in Basingstoke. 303 mile round trip after work. Braving the M25 both ways.* Eek.

    Picking up these wheels:

Currently fitted with a set of P Zero Corsa Systems with about 4mm of thread, but also getting a set of Clip Cup slicks thrown in as well. paying £250 for the lot, which I don't think is too bad.

Might throw the slicks onto the orange TT wheels, and obviously, I'll need to paint these orange ASAP!

Picked the wheels up last night. really chuffed with them! There's a genuine 4mm of tread on the Crosas, and the wheels are in good nick (apart from being blue!) From what I've heard they should last pretty well too.

Orange paint shall be applied this weekend to remain in keeping.

Clio cup slicks have been used for 1 race, and 1 track day at Snett, so they're not in bad shape either.

Does anyone know if I can safely use a 200/610/17 slick (actually 622mm wide) on a 7.5J rim? I've got no idea how wide the clutter cup speedlines are....
