I felt this pain when my car went in for the hybrid conversion... I took the call at work to say it was done and all was well... At this point in the conversation i was putting my coat on and telling the boss "im off, i need to pick it up"
It's awful isn't it? If niki were open until 9 I'd head up there right now. Haha. Cool new dv fitment has solved a few fuelling oddities: I think Rob said final figures were 290bhp/260lbft, but they tested it to 328bhp without pushing the turbo hard at all!
I think Niki said it peaked 21psi on the 328bhp run, but the load map has been taillored to tail off at the top end to cap power generally, so rather than rewrite it for the power test he just upped the whole load a tad, so 21-22psi peak but tailling off on purpose at the top end. If it were left to hold it's peak boost to the redline I'm sure it'd be well over 340 and replicate the welly results! Very happy with it indeed
Sounds great Mr Prawn, you will have to learn to get the power down without lighting up the street now...
oooooooooh yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaa AGU for the win indeed Mr. Nutting! large port everything and higher CR have to be helping Danny: will be at Ace on tuesday for sure. Will text you.
I'll have to check with Bigman who's taking me over, but I'd like to be there as early as possible, so half 9-10ish I'd think. they open at half 9. not sure I could manage to wait until later!
Stage 1, and after a bit of pestering and supplying of the goods, a new thermostat lol. Cant wait for saturday, knowing im going to see your animal is just the cherry on top.
Aim low score high is the only advice I can give you for meeting Prawn, you do know he is a 5ft nothing Thai bloke? Hence the nickname. Pester him to take you out in it, it will be eye opening!
Would just like to take a moment to compliment all on this thread. It should be made into a book or a TV series. Best read I have had in ages. Its killed an offshore shift and I thank you for that. Fantastic work Prawn. Superb car. Cant wait to watch the youtube clips once i get a pc with flash running on it. Once again. awsome, superb, entertaining etc etc etc
Lmao, noted. I suppose if he's gonna be taking it for a run theres room for a little one in the passenger seat
Glad you enjoyed it I've enjoyed writing it too, it's cool keeping a log of everything that's happening. I can't believe how far it's come in 14 months, from an MOT failure shed to 328bhp beast, it's been an amazing journey! Really sorry to dissapoint dude, but I'm not the 4ft china man Jardo tries to tell people I am. I am infact a 6ft2 fuller figured gent of English origins! Prawn just rhymes with my sirname
At 5ft 7 I resemble this spoken prawn more than you do. And excellent stuff, look forward to it mate. Btw I watched them Ring videos on your youtube, lovely bit of driving.
Ta very much, hope to get back out there this year, would be nice to get down to close on 8 minutes with the new found power! A chap I knew has done 08:06 in a focus RS with 300bhp, so i think it's an achievable goal
Sometime in the near future I would love to get out there for the first time. It will be very interesting seeing how much difference the said power is going to make. Im sure its going to make it more difficult to drive quickly. Either way im eagerly anticipating seeing another video with the new power. I always wonder if increasing the power on FWD makee lap times much quicker.. Did it feel asif it could take more without ridiculous understeer and lift off oversteer at 220bhp nick? I suppose if the diff is similar to the RS then should be awesome. How much is the difference in power to weight fron yours now to an RS?
Open pitlane trackday Westy, 150mph under the bridge which gains him some time, video is here: 8:06 BTG Lap at the Nurburgring on Vimeo Jims RS is 300bhp, and 1250kg, so 240bhp/ton, and I think they have a quaife ATB as standard. Mine is now 291bhp, and 1100kg, so 264bhp/ton, and also has a quaife ATB diff, so higher power/weight, with similar BHP figures for top end pull once aero comes into play. Itâs a strange one with regards to the power, as a road car, on the typical ARBâs & coilovers setup most people run, it felt a fair handful with 220-230bhp, and you wouldnât have wanted much more. The engine far outweighed the chassis. Now with all the suspension work done, the LSD, and the sticky tyres, it felt slow and desperate for more power, the chassis far outweighed the engine, even though the engine hadnât changed from the previous incarnation! So in answer, yes, I reckon it could take LOADS more power without upsetting it too much, the ko3S was also very punchy with a big torque spike, which didnât help traction, whereas the new setup looks like itâs going to be incredibly smooth and just keep on pulling and pulling. Weâve also got the option to turn it down to actuator pressure using the EBC if needs be, around 260-270bhp, so I think itâs something thatâll be easily tamed. On the ring there are lots of long fast open sections, so I think adding power will make a big difference, especially up âhorse power hillâ where previously we were flat out at 105-110mph, and the porsches were pulling 140+ due to their power
It does help doesn't it! Not sure how much by though.... I reckon sub 08:20 shouldn't be a stretch really 08:40 was with skinny old 205 pirelli track tyres, 20psi over inflated, and 210ish bhp. 290bhp and A048R's in the correct size should help things a great deal
It's not so much the hitting the bridge at top speed as you can hit it quite fast on a tourist day. The main difference is the private track days are limited to a small number of cars so there's hardly any traffic or workers repairing the armco to slow you down.
yup, people talk about clear laps with no traffic and no idiots, something we can only dream of at the moment! All my previous timed laps have had traffic hold ups, and you always think 'it'd be 08:30 if it wern't for him' kind of thoughts, hence why on the last trip I didn't bother filming or timing anything. just enjoyed it for what it is
what tyres are you running or would you recommend on a remapped k03s daily driver. was thinking falken 452's
I'd recommend Eagle F1 Asy2's or Contisport 5P (or 3 if they're not available). If you want a cheaper option, then look at the Hankook S1 Evo. Falken 452s are getting a bit old these days. Plenty of other threads on Tyre choices though, so please dont clutter this one up with it!
