Can get it at Maplin, or ebay. I used thermal compound used for mounting heatsinks to processors on pc motherboards. Not quite the same, because it has real silver particles in, so is actually a conductor. Put it on each pin individually (make sure just on each pin, so it doesn't short!), the push the plug back on a couple of times. My stuff was called "Arctic Silver", its about £6 for 30ml. You'll only use a tiiiiny bit, but you could do every plug in the bay, would be nothing but benificial! I did have a look for mine, but it got binned when I moved out :(

Failing that, maybe its time for tfsi coils?! :p

She will steam like crazy all the time in the cold dude, lack of cat in the exhaust will normally cause this annoyingly. Mine does exactly the same.

After a few K of hard labour, my XS mani was black from repeated heat cycles....

400 miles on the car this week :) Aside from the tiniest water leak, it's been brilliant.

Nightmare driving it and avoiding the temptation to floor it, but I've managed well I think. taken it to work every day, and took it to Ace Cafe on tuesday as well.

Hope to sort the water leak tomorrow, and then we're off to Rtech on Saturday :)

oh mate, dont mention it. it's going to be HORRIBLE waiting to pick it up!

there is a saving grace however, Nick is going to tweak the map on the daily on Saturday to take the decat and exhaust into account, so that should gain a nice bit mid range, and keep me entertained whilst I'm waiting for the track car!

    what an awesome day!

Will post more later, but today was great.

Got up to Rtech for half 9, Nick bought us all bacon sandwiches, and Jim got to work reading the Map off the daily.

We had a good look over the track car and chatted about my requirements, nick seems to understand exactly what we're looking for on this one, all about flow, not about boost. Really hoping for a good result, just not looking forward to the wait!

After that, Nick wrote a new map for the daily, which includes left foot braking/brake boost, better fuelling top end to work with the downpipe and decat, an extra 2 degres timing across the whole rev range, more boost and his own Launch control software!

That was loaded back on, and off we went for a test drive with Nick driving.

The car instantly felt sharper, and had MUCH more top end pull end, it just seems to keep going. Back at the estate, Nick showed me the Launch control - it's a bit scary!

Pretty cool how the revs come up and hold, then it holds the 4500rpm limit up to about 15-20mph whilst the tyres hook up, then gives you all the power.

I tried testing it when I got home, but it was wet, and snowing heavily, so when the power came back in it just span up like mad.

Still managed about 6 seconds dead though, on cheap tyres, in the rain and snow!

Not bad for a stage 1 ko3S! Massive thanks to Nick for finding time to reflash the daily with such a cool map :)

After that, we headed south to Badger5 to say hello and pick up some wheels I bought from Tufty, we arrived about half 1, and the snow was falling. Had a cup of coffee with Bill, Paul, and the guys (sorry, I've forgotten your names!), and got to see the awesome Badgerwagon running in the workshop, thanks Bill, what an absolute monster! Sounds nothing like any other 1.8T I've heard before! can't wait to see it racing at Combe this year.
A quick trip into town to get Tufty an oil filter, and Dad and I headed home. Long day, but thoroughly enjoyable!

Now I have the horrible wait ahead of my whilst Nick maps the track car

Do you have anything to accurately time your 0-60s?

I used a racelogic on friday and did 6.6 wahooo!

I'd be interested in what your a3s can do :)

Prawns Liquid gauge does 0 to 60's quite accurately, as a comparison my car does it in 5.8 measured on two GPS readers, on 16's with cheap tyres and a full leather interior, I shouldn't think Prawns daily will be any slower than 6 with his decent tyres and launch control. (although his mechanical sympathy for the clutch might slow him down!)

a road angel is a handy thing to have for timings and the like, and the new ones are rechargeable and would need charging about once a week overnight. I know somebody with one of these who says it is great, if a bit "serious" in it's operation PerformanceBox - Datalogger and Performance Meter -

I'll be having a go with the launch control when I come home in April Bob, no if's or buts I'm trying it out! I love the look of this, just such a shame i can't have it. Flat shift next :p

Hi Jardo, this is Bigal hijacking the thread. You are totally incorrect when you state GPS is the bees knees. They can be so inaccurate , your 1.8 is probably doing 0/6o in 2.8 not 5.8. AND it does not need launch control, just someone who can drive will do. If you wanted any advise, I would suggest you concentrate on getting it to stop and go around corners. L O LOVE. PS the car was on cheap roadies and it Snowing

I love you Al, can I invite myself over to pick up these £50 headrests at the weekend? They're such a bargain I would be devistated if they sold in the mean time, please don't put them on Ebay. Can I have them on 36 months finance with a 0% APR please? X

It's got so much power it shattered the rear screen on boost after it hit the sound barrier, Niki is fitting a new one tomorrow. Absolute 100% fact.

Argh! Something's been wrong with my forum settings and it's not allowed me to post! I'm also now getting an annoying preview of teh first line of every thread, which I don't want. Any ideas people?

Nice to see jardo isn't a million miles off the truth for a change! only around 1000. haha.

Having done some more dyno work, Niki decided to road test the car, and hooked it up with DET cans and an o2 sensor in the tailpipe. 30 minutes testing and all was well, then cruising back to the unit:

I think Niki thought he was getting shot at!

I'm not going to post much detail until it's finished, but needless to say, it's absolutely smashed the power figures we were hoping for, on even less boost, and Niki is now detuning it back to below 300bhp. :)

    Happy days.

To keep you lot happy though, here's a purposefully blury screen shot I took from a video Niki sent me :)

Torque curve looks incredible, considering that line is up around 270lbft :)

It is being mapped on the rollers Jimbo, Niki took it out on the road to do some testing and see how it behaves real world. Just data logging on the road with DET cans and WBo2 to see how it behalves in it's natural environment, as so often cars perform differently on the road to on a dyno.

It's bad luck on the screen, but pretty awesome that's it's being fixed straight away at no cost to me. top service as always :)

Getting nightly updates, pics and videos about it's progress too, which is going some way to stoping me going mad wanting it back!

I've already convinced myself I'm getting bucket seats after sitting in Prawns at Ace Cafe last week. I know the strip and cage step will be soon. Just need a cheap runaround first.

To be honest lads, I'd say it depends entirely on your personal situation.....

I used this all week last week, and didn't find it an issue to be honest. the only thing that became a problem was picking up my girlrfiend from work one day, she finds it embarassing having to harness up into a car with a bright orange cage infront of her work mates, and also feels sick within 2 minutes due to the seats being so low she can't see over the dash!

Apart from that, I'd have no issues using it daily. it's just a joy to drive!

Sounds like it's going to be really quick even on actuator pressure too, I just can't wait to drive it!

Thanks folks! No real news of any huge interest tonight, New rear screen was fitted today, and Niki started doing some testing, but due to the slightly differnt location of the turbo intake on the ko4 setup, my N75 plug and wires were a bit tight. I knew this when it went in, but didn't realise the full extent of the issue. Today the N75 wire pulled out whilst it was being tested, causing boost issues, so a new plug is being soldered on tomorrow and it should be good to continue!

I'll be back up again to pick it up! Hopefully it'll be ready on Saturday and I'll be around this weekend. if not it'll most likely be the weekend after. I'll let you know matey :)
