Ah, you bought that Rad then Nick! Nice, should be nice to have some piece of mind in the cooling system. Any progress on getting air out of the bay a bit more efficienty?

I saw this and thought of our conversation over christmas ;)

Also, something similar to this should help get rid of what's stuck above the under-tray a little when you do the floor/skirts:

That's a very cool idea Robin, I like that.

It might be a bit limited with the chassis rails, but I guess i could try some near the front to aid wheel arch clearing, and some that run a little further back beyond the chassis rails to clear engine bay nastyness. Worth looking at for sure.

Massively exciting super interesting progress here last night!

I measured and marked up my old broken scuttle, in readiness for fitting my new '400bhp' scuttle, from no less than the original TufftyWagon.

Just drill holes through the firewall! You get the air out and keep warm at the same time I see it as win win!

Holes in the bulkhead are the problem at the moment Miggz!

Bloody thing leaks like a seive! hence the new scuttle to cure it :)

    A productive day here :)

I started by pulling off the bonnet. the scuttle is pretty fiddly to get on with the Ext and Batt pull cords, and I wanted to really clean out all the channels and inside the scuttle to clear out the drainage routes too.

Handy being carbon, it's a 2 minute job and very easy on your own.

I found the main source of the leak, where my WMI pipe comes through the bulkhead there was no grommit.

I hadn't thought it was needed, as the hole is slightly up the slope of the bulkhead, but with the drainage channels blocked, water was making it's way up, and into the car.

Not able to unfeed the entire WMI pipe, I decided to find another grommit solution.

I found a piece of silicon pipe that was slightly too large for the hole, and used a flap wheel to grind a taper onto it to act as a plug.

I slit it end on, and fed it over the pipe and wire, then taped it back together, and forced it into the hole until it was dead tight.

That should seal it up nicely :)

With that done, I soldered up the new EGT sensor, and popped the new scuttle on:

You can see where I had to make slots in it here to allow it to fit with the Pull cords:

    Sealed up after being fitted.

I also decided to remove the BGW for a while, as it won't be on track in the next month, and it makes covering it much harder as it sticks out!

Looks odd Wingless now! I almost miss it.

Sealed up the holes with some blanking grommits and a bit of sealant. The wing has marked the bootlid a little, but it's no big deal.

I also offered up a strut brace I've had for 6 years and never fitted!

My gran bought this for me years and years ago, but sadly my previous FMIC routes have always stopped me front fitting it.

When the weather gets better I'll spray it orange and fit it :)

Aside from that, I just went for a drive.

Car feels amazing in the cold air on dry roads at last, I've really missed it!

THE strut brace, after all these years. That was a special order thru OMP and took two months to arrive. Glad you have at last decided to use it. I'm sure it will have some positive effects.

Sure is Mark. Photo was taken as it was cooling down after a bit of a thrash. Typically peaks around 850 on the road, and doe reach 900 on track. Oddly though, never over 750 on the dyno. Probe is in the first 20mm off the downpipe, positioned directly in front of the turbine outlet.

I can appreciate how much of a special order it must have been.

Bloody special to get a Sparco strut brace through OMP

Updates should be as often as they used to be. By far the most interesting build. Your thread count used to climb faster than hitlers gas meter, now its quite often on page 2 :(

I just want to be sure on stripping before i actually do it. Guess its pointless asking you if you have any regrets lol.
By the way im still not seeing abingdon on any trackday sites. Looked a few days ago. Hope they still are doing it.

Another really good day here :)

I spent the morning sorting out the Mini, which is now all ready to go for MOT this week, then this afternoon Jardo and i went out in the a3 for a proper thrash in the dry again :)

Pics are pre wash, as it was getting Dark, and we had 10 minutes to kill whilst we waited for a woman to clean her chelsea tractor!

    Cheers JB :icon_thumright:

I like seeing vids from outside, because I've never really heard it from outside myself, and I'm not about to let anyone else jump for fear it it breaking / them crashing.

Seems louder from the outside than it is inside too!

In other, far more interesting news.....

2 years, 1 month, and 3 weeks in the garage since Mini last moved under it's own steam.

Fitted new front brake pipes, , bled brakes, bolted the front suspension back up, charged the battery.
A few other little jobs, and I pressed the button, and it lives!

So, not audi related, but who cares.

    Today is a special day.

Today, is the day that the Mini has returned to the roads, 2 years and 2 months after being parked up in my garage and forgotten about when i started the k04 hybrid build on the A3, and not touched since.

    Pictures to prove it happened!

Epic flooding on teh way to the MOT station, was late so had no choice but to drive through it. Came in through the floor and I got SOAKED!

Made it to the MOT station fine :)

You realise how small mini's are when you see them next to newer cars!

Glad it's all on the road though, bet it's fun to drive.

Bloody terrifying in Southampton rush hour traffic! Looked to my right at one point and I was lower than the headlights on a parcel force van

Home and safe and tucked away now though :) very happy.

Took the A3 out as soon as I got back too, driving both back to back was SO strange.

Oddly, the A3 feels smaller inside than the Mini!

The mini inside with only two seats is enormous. I remember at Hulavington when you took a really big guy as passenger and he thought he would not fit.. After he said how big it was inside. That's our min.

    330x28 at the moment Sam.

i'm going to do some experimenting with fitments, but hopefully when we replace these we'll squeeze a set of 343's under the rims.

That's the plan at least :)

Discs are AP 12 bolt Daz, 330x28, onto some adapted Godspeed alloy centre bells to fit the VAG hubs

The carriers were custom made to suit my choice of disc and caliper.

by using the Godspeed bells, I've kept the disc offset the same as the LCR calipers, meaning any available disc upgrades for the LCR should in theory fit these too with the appropriate radial spacing :)
