and what would they be thinking would be thought of them if the evidence was to break out so general populous could see.... And judge for themselves how inappropriate a behaviour it would be.

If you want to buy it, then buy it! If you don't, then don't!
How can this be a copy of Beachbuggys work? This conversion was done 5 years ago by a company called Loba. Who is copying who? I have never seen Beachbuggys design!

I think this is a great, simple solution to the problem, if you don't the that's fine.

Tuffty, you need to wind you neck in! you come across as a right smug oaf!

yes, but they're abroad, and use a totally different method of mounting the turbo's which is a physical impossibility on our RHD cars. they may have done it in the past, but Dan has gone right back to the drawing board with his and created something unique that works brilliantly.

The ebay copy from mystery man (ee by gum!) doesn't look as good to me. it's more simple to make, but looks more fiddly and less robust.

I'm confused by what is a ok copy and what is not.

Dan copied Loba but its ok cause his is different and they are from a different country.
Ebay James's copy is not ok cause it comes from the same country but its still different.

So we can copy anything from a different country and do it differently but we can't do something different but with the same application from the same country?

So just to clarify here James, you're definitely not co-director of a metal works company in Leeds, and you don't work alongside one of our regular forum users? Who recently bought a tfsi turbo from a 2010 car like the one in your ebay pictures....

if that's the case, then you should pop over and meet Dave at stainless engineering, I believe he's pretty local to you, and I believe he was looking at doing something very similar as we speak!

Dan didn't copy Loba, Loba design uses short stub stacks with 2 flanges and is a physical impossibility to mount on a RHD car.

Dans design is clever and mounts the turbo in a totally OE way using OE hardware. JW copy uses an odd mix of countersinks, bolts into the 10mm flange, and bolts through the 10mm flange that don't sit square on the turbo, and funny angular washers to make it all mate up, which sill almost certainly try to slide and exert a sheer force on the studs.

I've not seen Dan's only seen the Loba one and JW's one.
But they all seem to be different with the same end goal. To fit a TFSI turbo to a 1.8T.
That seems ok to me, so I don't understand all the hostility if they are different.
If it was exact I could understand but not if they are as different as you say.

there is a back story to this you are unware of....

I dont believe in coincidences nor timing of things

Ask what Actual testing has been done on this one and who's car is running one and for how long?

    pray tell

    exhaustively tested is it?

It's more the odd nature of how it's been done.....

Listed on ebay not 12 hours after I posted the results of my testing? first of it's kind to be tested in the UK might I add, so we KNOW this one hasn't been tested.

Listed under a different name?, which is easily traced with 2 minutes on google, then Dave denies all knowledge when i asked him this morning?

That in itself suggests that dear old Dave KNOWS that what he's doing is underhand, I like Dave very much, and he has a good rep on this forum, so surely selling it under his own name would help give the product credit?

    just stinks a bit really....

You should work for the Met you lot...we would half the crime in an hour.... ;)

Firstly Aragon, i did not use multiple accounts James set his own up, so your not allowed the same ISP?

Ok for some clarification, Ive been looking at this TFSI set up a while now before Dan posted, i was interested in the Greek guys post,
I approached Dan, asking if he was selling the kit and he said he should be but it needed testing before he was going to do anything,,
So as i have everything to hand, i decided to design my own (dont forget ive never seen dans) and its hardly rocket science anyway, anyway sent my design for a quote from the laser cutters, and it was far cheaper getting a few done than a one off, so James said i will see what interest is out there go get a few made, so thats what happened...Simple as that!
There has been no copying going on at all, if my design was wrong so be it, but it happened to work out very good indeed..
So you need to get of your high horses and put it into perspective!
If james wants to put out a feeler to see the interest he is certainly within his rights to do so...
And inspector Prawn how you can tell from photos what is robust or not is beyond me...

You asked if i was selling them i said no... he is not selling them through the firm he just wanted a feeler of the interest...

    Exhaustive. Funny guy! :p

Interesting how we spoke about this yesterday, and the potential outcomes of the actions leading up to this release.

Then results are posted and on the next working day Daves boss releases an 064 adapter.

Personally I feel the individual who leaked the information needs stringing up. If he was aware of the implications of his actions...

    Dave

    dude
c'mon fella. the timing is uncanny dont you think? You are independant of each other and in no way was this born out of the price Dan quoted you and not wanting to sell his until its been proven....... vs yours which is unlikely to be more than whats in the advert picture only at this point in time. Some adaptor parts.

Safe to say its not been on a car and tested yet?

I wish you well with it, but it has come across Very Badly on here.... as I see it

I don't think 10mm is thick enough dude, and you've got some stainless countersinks going into the plate, then some high tensile bolts going through the plate into the alloy head, different metals with different rates of thermal expansion plus the machined angled washers which will surely pull on the flange at an angle and try to bend the stud.

that, coupled with the timing, and releasing it under James name, all seems a bit sly to me mate, seeking to benefit off the back of others hard work.

    Just seems a shame....

Bill, you get a quote for a 1 off than 10 off at nearly the same price due to a minimum order what do you do? i needed one anyway so i would be a fool not to get the rest done, anyway i even asked Dan if he wanted the CAD drawing weeks ago.... but he had sent his off
As in timing yes i can see it not being the best for dan, but it was not planned and it never got mentioned on here, it was from someones private ebay account..

10mm is standard for an exhaust flange OEM ,
You do know how a tapered washer works? Im not arguing about the design it will work ...

    This is silly

I told you you're original 25mm adaptor was too big!

Sure 10mm will work? Seriously you sure it'll actually fit in a rhd car?

good question, why is it a race to see who can do what when etc?? why is it all schtum and a competition for one party to be ahead of another in terms of modifications?
tfsi idea is old in the grand scheme of things. Only recent discussions have spurred it on somewhat and obv got Dan on the case, and this James fella too.
Its not the end of the world.
You cant have something like this exclusive to one person/party. Bit sad if you want it as a bragging right.

We all know the quality of stainless engineerings work, why not acknowledge whats been done, actually physically compare whats best (not childishly slag it off just because), and go from there. If Dan has a kit planned for these, why not adopt the other design if it is better and cheaper. im not saying it is. No one has Dan thus far, so throwing around 'you're a copy cat' is a bit desperate.

everyone get over themselves. Use whats best, the whole concept (much like hybrids as a whole, be it ko4s in ko3s and ko4s welded to ko9s inside ko6s with rs6 wheels with double loop da loops) is an old one, and this will also mature into a realistic and common option where it is both easy and cheap for people to do.

    Jeez

when i saw what the greeks were doing i was tempted!
Its too late now for me, turbos done and dusted.
BUT, i support and follow Dan and his associates closely regarding this because its epic!
And if someone does opt for JW's adapter im sure/hope they wouldnt be dissapointed.
Dan/prawn/ben have done the hard work regarding this in terms of bringing it to the masses. No one can deny that. But for everyone to be so catty like this is a shame.

There is no issue with Dave making his own adapters, as already said, he's more than welcome to, they could be very good. Who knows?

its just the way it's been done that stinks, denying it was him when I politely asked this morning, selling under a different name, releasing it just 12 hours after we release the results of our testing, it's jumping on a wave of excitement that really isn't yours to gain from.

Do your own testing, and sell products off the back of your own successes please. Not ours.

    i couldn't agree more dude!

id like to think we're all mates here, a better approach would be for Dave to have said openly that he might make a few. Then those wanting a comprehensive lot could go to Dan, and those who fancied a more DIY approach could try their own lck with Daves adapter only and sort the rest themselves.

Twn everyone would be happy. It's the sneakiness that makes it petty

At the end of the day everyone will be happy and this whole thing will mark a new chapter in the 1.8t world. regardless of who they buy from and what they go with. Dans kits, as far as everyone knows is the only fully comprehensive kit going and people will and do know that.
