Hi All

I have a 2004 54 plate A4 tdi 130 sport Saloon

The power steering works, but often stiffens up when parking or turning at slow speed. i have been told by my garage that the pump is at fault, or on its way out.

Would it be advisable just to have it replaced or repaired, ive seen few cheap ones on ebay, but i think the mechanic said about £200 to sort, does that sound about right.

I don't think its something i would attempt as a DIY unless you think its doable.

Thanks all

As above, do a flush and oil change first. Depending on your engine, they're not too bad to change. I've done one a 1.9tdi 130 Passat and took me an hour all in to swap and replace.

Thankyou for replies

Noob question, are you referring to a normal Oil change or the Power steering pump fluid (which i haven't checked yet)

Its due a service anytime now, so hopefully will sort it

Thanks

Interesting - does it need a specific p/steering fluid or will any generic stuff do?

Yeah mate get the genuine stuff, I'm sure it was only about £11pl when I got some a few months back.
