My daughter's '96 A4 2.8 has a power steering fluid leak. I can see it under the back of the engine, but not the source. The area around the reservoir is dry and clean, as is the pump. Where else does the fluid go? I see one line going behind a panel near the left front wheel well, but can't tell where it goes.

Also, reading some posts, I am now concerned because I used ATF fluid to top it off. Did I make it worse? Should I try to drain it and put in mineral oil? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My '97 A4 2.8Q started leaked from the steering rack. Had to get a new/refurb rack fitted, not cheap, so hope it isn't the same in your case.
No idea how critical the mineral oil question is, but I have been told you should definately not use generic PS fluid.
